Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Hey, guys well my car needs to go to the shop and get some stuff worked on but its going to cost me an arm and a leg at the dealer so until i save up some cash to get it done i was thinking of switching inspection stickers. I have a jeep cherokee and i just got it inspected so the sticker is good and i already started to peel it off so i can just switch it.
Now, i have a friend who says that you cannot peel the sticker off since it will leave the info on the windshield and not the sticker. I dont think this is true since all they do when they remove your sticker is take an ice scraper and just scrape it off and all that remains is the glue no info. Am i correct or is my friend a retard?

Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Depends if cops even see it. One time I bought a car and never inspected it. I even got pulled over and he didn't say a thing. It said pass and it didn't expire yet anyways but your supposed to reinspect it anyways dah well. Don't have that car anymore anyways. Trying taking a bit off and see if the info goes or not thats all.
Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
If they caught you...you are in deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep dog poop. It's some type of criminal offense I'm sure. You're better off driving around with an expired one. Not to mention if they ever looked they can see it was manipulated and that the VIN won't match.
Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Don't do it. I got busted for sticker fraud before and almost went to jail. Granted I was a real idiot and actually made my own sticker out of construction paper and a bit of creativity. That's when I was 22 and stupid.
Not worth the risk. Do it right

Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Yeah that is not good. My sis bought a car from a used car dealer around here and they said they would get a sticker for her and they did that and she didn't check it. Went to get her oil changed at jiffy lube like 8 months later and they noticed it and they called the cops she had to go to court and everything. Nothing came of it for her but she ended bringing charges against the guy and they opened up an investigation and he got shut down. I dont' know if this is a myth or not though I heard that since it is all in the computer now they can tell automatically when you are pulled over if your car is expired or not and something else to do with the registry i'm not sure one of my buddies told me that. I would advise against what you are going to do.
Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
yeah i was just figureing as a short term fix until i could get the money to have it fully repaired. I think the odds of me getting caught are pretty low most cops dont even look at the sticker mine expired in january and i still drive it around. Granted i see more red stickers now then green so thats why i was thinking of doing it. Just for a short term thing, my camaro will go off the road in november anyway and then its back to the jeep.
The reason why i was putting it off is because i need a new switch on my car that engages the reverse lights. They dont even come on anymore.
I am throwing a code for my secondary air injection check valve
I am throwing a code for my knock sensor
and last but not least i am throwing a code for my o2 sensor which i already swapped out.
I have no idea how much all of that is going to cost prob around 800 but i just dont have the cash right now.

Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
reverse light switch is around the shifter somewhere that should be cheap and the knock sensor could be around $20 and the o2 is around $60 not sure about secondary air injection check valve. so why $800 someone trying to rip you off? and about the sticker when i got my new car and i got it inspected like a day or 2 late cuz i didnt have the cash earlier and they sent me a notice saying i cant drive the car and something bout my license too i think. by the time i had got letter i already was inspected for days and i called them and like what the hell is this and they said everything alright now, so yea its most likely on the computers now.
Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
In Maine they do not inspect for backup lights.... Only brake lights and turn signals. In theory, you shouldn't be backing down a public way so backup lights are not part of our inspection process.
Up here we cannot throw any codes. However since they don't have to plug in they just look for an idiot light so I just have my dashboard taped off with external gauges....

If you peel it off without really warming it up it will say void on it. The new mass law is no inspection sticker and your reg is revoked. So if a cop scans it and figures it out your getting driving a non registered vehicle as well as sticker violations.

Re: Inspection sticker truth or myth?
Few years back when I lived in MA, I got pulled over in Weymouth MA. Cop told me that the reason he pulled me over was he ran my plate and it told him that the car was uninspected. The car actually had a valid inspection sticker but in attempts to lower insurance, I had signed the title over to my mom and switched registration and insurance to her name with me as a secondary driver. Apparently any time a name change takes place the car has to get inspected, even if the sticker is valid.
Anyways moral of the story: they can check your inspection sticker electronically now by running your plates.
