Inspection BS -Let's hear it

Since enforcement has become tighter, in Western Mass at least, I thought it might be good to start a thread where people can describe their experiences regarding vehicle mods and the inspection process.

Last summer I was burned for an overly loud exhaust (AS&Ms, Random Tech Cat, Hooker cat back, raised idle speed) This same combo passed the year before.

My headers were checked to ensure the emission equipment was in place

Cat was verified as present

I was also warned about the difficulty of getting my car on the chasis rollers due to ride height. (How do the Vette's make it ?)

I was harrassed about the exhaust tips on the Hooker cat because it made it more difficult to insert the probe. (HOW ABOUT INSERTING IT UP YOUR ****!)

If anyone has run into similar or different problems, chime in!

You may not want to post any shop names here... Anybody can read the board, including the people that have the authority to determine who can and cannot perform state inspections.

Thanks for catching that! I should have assumed that peeping eyes were present. My bad.

I would like to hear of people's experiences, however. How have you faired with your mods? Emissions, exhaust, suspension, deleted equipment, ect. Have you been harrassed or turned away?

Re: Inspection BS -Let's hear it

Most places are pretty strict around where I live. My wife's '99 Chrysler Sebring failed inspection for a tire with too little tread. In reality, the tires were fine and all tread was within spec so I took it to a more friendly shop and it passed immediately.

My 2000 Bonneville passed just fine but they do an e-check on it because it is newer...

My Camaro, with 383, longtubes, 5-point, 12 bolt, no backup lights, skinnies up front..... (you get the picture), needs a very friendly inspection place. There is one shop in my area that is owned by a drag racer and his interpretation of the state inspection is the purpose is to determine if a vehicle is safe to be on the road. He passed the Camaro again last month. He checks the tires, makes sure the front end is tight, makes sure the lights, turn signals, and horn are working, and that is it...

I have been pulled over several times by officers but they really just want to make sure it has a current sticker and registration and beyond that they just want to know how quick it goes and if I get hassled a lot.
