I have a problem
I have a problem
hey guys,
I have a '95 Z-28 A4 and the other night i was driving home and the low coolant light came on. so i got home went to bed and checked the next morning. there was a little spot on the ground of antifreeze so i figured id ask on the board, then i went back out 20 mins later and the whole thing pretty much dumped on the ground. the thing is, i'll add water and it drips out like crazy if the car is off, but if the car is running it barely drips at all...i would think it would drip more with the car running.
the leak drips down the main pulley down at the bottom of the engine like right in the middle of the car (i dont know exactly what to call it so i thought id give u the location of the pulley). im rather stumped. my father and i think that it may be the water pump since it dus not seem like any of the hoses are the problem. my father and i could have fixed a hose, but we're at a loss if its the water pump or something like that. i was wondering if there was someone around or a good place to take it to, to get it looked at and then fixed, i can probably drive it, but not very far, so beyond worcester is pretty much out of the question, i dont wanna mess the car up. im really at a loss here and need some help guys. oh, and if it is the water pump, what should i use and what else should i do while im at it???
thanx in adavnce,
jake

If you want to take it to a private party and can make it to Clinton my friend Jim has a 97Z and a lift in his garage. I just talked to him and he would be willing to do it. He gets $30/hr and it would probably be a 2-3 hour job. Certainly no more than 4. He does this on the side so it would have to be after work on a weeknight or a weekend..... You bring the water pump, antifreeze, and distilled water (if you don't want to use tap). If you are interested email him at jperkins@ll.mit.edu.

I talked to FIRESTONE off or Rt. 9 by White City and they quoted me like 100 sumthin for a rebuilt old waterpump, and 200 something, which is basically the price of the CSI waterpumps i was checking out online, and then he quoted me $250 or so to install it
. so if i buy the CSI waterpump or whatever is there ne1 around that could help me install it or knows a good shop? id really appreciate it. obviously id give the person money to help me or id really like to know of a good shop to go to in the Shrewsbury / Worcester area.

I can probably help you, you're only a little over an hour away from me. I've done plenty of waterpump installs, they're a piece of cake. I would go with a Meziere pump, you don't have to modify the waterpunp housing to put it in the you have to with the CSI. All you would need to buy is the pump(~$200 I think), waterpump gaskets($5), a few cutting wheels for my dremel(don't have any left, you need it to cut clearance out of the fan shroud) and antifreeze. We could knock it out on a sat afternoon or something. Let me know, just email me since I'm not always regular at checking the board, camride@yahoo.com.
Seriously,
Do it yourself. It is one of the easier repairs you can do. No special tools needed. If you decide to go the electric route, here is a tutorial. http://www.projecttransam.com/projects9.asp
Or check Brent franker's install guide for a couple of ways to change the stocker.
Save a couple hundred bucks.

You can do it yourself, but bring it to NEDYNO in Worcester they can install a new waterpump for you or you can have them install the electric waterpump.
Give them a call. 508-752-5557
Shouldn't take them that long to do it.
