Headers

want to do headers as my next mod, and definetely want to go with LT's. How have you guys been getting around MA inspection, as most headers use ORYP, and the ones that come with cats are usually over a grand. So far I'm considering the Pacesetters(have to find a catted y-pipe), Mac Midlengths with catted ypipe, SLP, etc. Any thoughts on how you guys are passing the sniffer would help. Thanks.

On your car you don't hafta worry about it.....a couple of my buddies have the Kooks longtubes and a ORYP and they pass no prob as long as you get your car tuned and it's not throwin any codes you'll be all set.

Re: Headers

Us ls1 guys don't have to use the sniffer so with ls1edit to get rid of the rear 02's egr and cats when they plug into the car it passes You will fail visual for not having cats but just go to a nice place that doesn't care. Only things that would fail you is visual cause no cats or cats in different place, or noise.

Re: Headers

I'm getting used MACS and high flow cats, but I was wondering how inspection places know where cats are supposed to be on every car? How can they tell that they have been moved?

So will I pass OK, with my O2s and all emissions?

You'll be fine.

Re: Headers

Your car is not really modified in any substancial way. You may want to consider some coated carb compliant headers so you don't have to worry about being hassled at inspection time. I didn't go for the long tubes until I did the stroker.

Re: Headers

Well I'll have a full exhaust and the whisper lid....by no means is it heavily modded, but it's a start

Anyways, how can you fail the visual? How do they know where the cats are supposed to be on all cars? (Unless you go to a dealership)

Re: Headers

Short tube headers are a complete waste of money on LS1 cars.Longtube are the only way to go.

Since I've installed all makes of headers I'll tell you this. You get what you pay for. There is a eason why some headers are cheaper than others and if you plan on keeping the car go with some Stainless.Forget about coated because I've seen them all rust(even SLP's).The top HP headers are Kooks,PPC,QTP. Pacesetter,Flowtech,Hookers,SLP all have different issue's from crappy build quality, thin materials, horrible clearances, bad fitment. As said before- You get what you pay for.

Re: Headers

I don't wanna get longtubes cuz of emissions, so I'm sticking with midlength, which I think are definatly good enough.

with a bolt on car you won't loose to much only like 5 rwhp but when you start doing Mods it will make a difference.
