Unhappy Engines apart again

Well the engine is down to the bare block again.

Mike noticed some excess steam/smoke coming out the breather on the dyno runs.So he pulled the intake off because he thought the intake wasn't seated right.Seems they fit like **** same thing happened on Robs.So they were going to through in a softer intake gasket as well, as the stockers are hard as rocks.

They decieded to do a compression test and everything looked fine and called it a night. The next day they decieded to check the compression again and noticed alot less this time.

Seems that those super dupper 1,300.00 pistons and rings were the culprit.Mike thinks there was a problem with the forgings or the heat treating because when he took off a head he notice there was excess play in the pistons. You could move them back and forth with your fingers. The pistons actually SHRANK!!!!.Wich leads us to believe that the heat treating was messed up.The sides of the piston skirts were all scored up after 30 minutes of dyno time.Wich ruined the nice hone job on the block.

Also the LT4 intake sucks for fuel distrabution. The front cylinders and rear cylinders were like 400 degrees in difference if I remember correctly. He next day aired one of the pistons back to CP and will know more in a day or too.

One a positive note you will be refering to me as Vortech402 instead of Vortech398 possibly.

>Sorry that sucks , but hey 402 is bigger than 398 .
I'm supposed to receive my Nu-Tek 396 today by carrier delivery . I hope that JE didn't have the same problems that CP may have had .

Hmm this sounds familiar.

I remember over this past summer, me and my neighbor were tearing apart his motor (Supercharged 306 Mustang, cam, TFS heads, etc) and you could do the exact same thing!!

It's like the block was bored .030 over, but the pistons were only .020 over. But now that you said it, the pistons might have shrank

This Quest Racing is starting to sound like ACS Racing

Slowhawk,
It wasn't Quest Racings fault. It turns out that it wasn't that the pistons shrank due to improper heat shrinking either.Well they did shrink in a way but only from the beating that they took.It turns out that CP made the pistons with the wrong taper on the piston skirts. It was more a set of pistons for a N/A car.The cylinder pressure was too much for the pistons with the blower and was pressurizing the crankcase.

Cp is giving me a new set of pistons and rings.Mike is trying o get them to cover the labor also. It's going to take 2 weeks to get a new set of pistons though. The piston company also said with the right set of pistons I should gain 5% in power with the better sealing.Thats like another 30 horse right there if it's true.

I'll keep you guys updated as to how everythings coming along.

John, your in good hands - check out the news page at http://www.cppistons.com/
Here is what we have forward to looking at this season! Yes all with CP Pistons!

http://www.cppistons.com/Web%20Galle...an%20Gould.htm
We have to figure a way to get you some better luck! Only you could take the number one winning piston in the world to its knees -- LOL But I am sure when its all said and done we will both be at the 1/4 mile line, of course with you in my rear view mirror

damn John you're starting to sound like me with the luck you are having

this sucks that you have to keep pulling it apart and doing everything over again....... any word on whether or not the labor is going to be covered?

regardless of whos fault it is, this doesn't look good for Quest now does it? yet another engine thats supposed to have been finished and ready to go, but oh wait looks like there's a problem

keep us updated

I just figured if they are a hardcore racing shop, they would have enough sense to check out the pistons completely before install.I'm sure they are charging top $$ for building this engine for you.Hope it's done for the spring, sounds like with the right driver it should be a mid 9 second car

Just when things start coming together.

Hopefully they will want this done, and out of their shop before their racing season begins!
