cracked head saga finally over!

At least I think so!! For those of you who care or remember I had the GTP-headed lt1 Ram-Air that make some good numbers on the dyno in 2002 but liked to sip the coolant. After a round of head gasket swaps AND a new engine (Golens, who missed the crack in #1 exhaust port even after I told them to pressure check the heads) - I am happy to say crack has been fixed (2 shops and 9 months later - the first place butchered it up a little and could fix it - the 2nd place fixed it and the butchering - very nice work). I put the head on this past weekend, pressurized the system and it held!

Drove the car around a little bit. I forgot what it's like to drive without smelling coolant at almost every stop. I will monitor the coolant level but am fairly confident problem solved.

Now I need to get another 850 break-in miles on my new motor. Would like to hit the dyno for a baseline before I get the supercharger. Same cam, same heads as before.

How will a "repaired" cylinder head handle the cylinder pressures of a forced induction motor?

I'm going to find out! Besides, the crack was in the exhaust port, not in the combustion chamber. My other choice was to buy new heads. And knowing what I know now I would get AFRs ($1800 ouch) or the new Trick Flow heads ($1300) if they ever ship a pair....

Yeah at least those are available! I felt the intake port is too small for my application and the combustion chamber is the same as stock at 54cc which is a real dealbreaker for me now Those would be best suited for a mild to moderate NA 350 or a mild NA 383. The Trick Flow heads are designed specifically for nitrous and blower apps with 64cc chambers and a relatively large exhaust port.
