Can someone help me who has a scan tool!!!!!!

Just did my heads and cam install and it runs aweful! I loaded pcmforless tuning. It back fires and barely want s to start. I have to rev it to start it. Once it runs I let it idle around 750-800rpm and it backfires, but a metallic sound like a ping? Every four or five seconds. Rockers are really loud, so I need to adjust. It kinda feels like my step bro's stang when it was off with the timing? I put the opti back on the dowel pin using the hole on the opti that has the mark above it. I noticed a 9 and 1 on the opti, but I went by the mark. Can someone get together with me to try and pull codes?

Could be a rocker adjustment. If some are loose, then some may be to tight and hanging open, possibly tapping the pistons. This will make it run like crap.

Don, I thought if the rockers were too tight, they would cause a valve to be hung up. If too loose the lifter would ride up the lope and not push the rocker arm right away (i.e.e maybe a couple thousandths of an inch).

How do you like your new cam?

Adjusting the rockers is important on the running condition of the car.The thing is if they are not adjusted right ie.preload is too tight ,they will hang open and hit the valves or let air through and the car will run like a bag. When you do a cam and head install the lifters have time to lose oil.So it is hard to tell when adjusting the rockers that you don't start collapsing it.The easiest way is to have the cylinder on the compression stroke and wiggle the pushrod till there is no slack, then give it another 1/4-1/2 turn to set preload.Take some time and readjust the rockers and see what it runs like after.

My Cam is working great.Did a little head work too.So far I'm at 380hp and a 12.3 at the track.11's will be before winter.

I adjusted them just the way you said. I went with 1/4 turn.

What kind of tires are you using? If you got dr's, how is the rear holding up?

Thumbs up

Glad you found the problem. Are you going to make it to NEDT for the next f-bod dyno day? How does it sound?
I'm installing that same cam next weekend along with AS&M headers.

Its sounds pretty damn good to me! Its got a good lope. Is yours custom ground on a 114lsa like mine? When is the next dyno day?

No, I'm on a 112lsa
I think the next dyno session is either Oct 19th or 20th.

Have you gotten on it hard yet? What are you looking at for a shiftpoint?

I have only run it to 5000-5200rpm. I will eventually shift at around 6350rpm, with the rev limiter set @ 6500rpm. It will all depend on how it does on the dyno. I wont be in town on that dyno day, but Dean might be able to fit me in another day.
