Post Anyone know Mass emissions laws?

What I need to know is how they determine which car gets tested for emissions in which year. I heard that odd year cars(say a 1995) gets tested for emissions in the odd years(say 2003). Is this correct? My reason is that I've got a 1996 that wasn't tested this year because all the other 1996 TAs that were tested had low emissions(according to the data sheet they gave me). Will I be tested in 2003, or 2004? Thanks, any info would be appreciated. I've been searching for awhile and can't find any info.
thanks,
Josh

I'm not exactly sure what the requirements are but they definately go on the trends of the other cars out there of the same make and model.

so you could go crazy w/ mods and forget about emissions but there is a chance that you will have to get tested eventually...... unless you are really lucky

I dont know either. I havn't had to go on the rollers for the past 2 years. I thought for sure I'd have to do it last year, but nope. I'll find out next month for this year

Prior to the new roller emissions test, the place I go always put 'NA' into the machine for the testing because they could never find the #1 plug wire.

I have never been put on the rollers since the new testing was put into effect. All they ever ask me is how many cylinders it has. But this year, being an even year, I have no idea what they will do.

I already read that page. It doesn't say how they determine which cars get tested in which year.

The way it works is normally odd/even. The exceptions are for new plates/just purchased used vehicle. After the first emissions test the schedule will be every other year from that date regardless of the year of the vehicle. The type of test is determined by the configuration of the particular vehicle itself. For example if the car has non-disengageable traction control it must be tested on the two-speed idle test. The inspector is responsible for the information put in but the state system does have records on which cars absolutely cannot be tested this way. Examples of those are certain model BMWs, Volvos, etc. which if not run on the dyno are very likely to do severe transmission damage. This is most commenly due to lack of fluid being pumped thru the trans while in park or neutral at the higher idle speed portion of the test. Hope this answers your questions.
