Post Why not spray below 3000?

I was just wondering. I don`t have a stall convertor. I just got an NX wet kit and was trying to find out a few things before I put it on.

Short answer is ...you generate too much cylinder pressure at lower rpms when you spray...tends to break and bend things.

You also run the risk of a back fire through the intake. Intake velocity over 3000 RPM usually is enough to eliminate backfire.

example (true story)
had a guy with a 289 I built, was spraying a 75 shot, and had the button on his shifter. One night, him and his buddy are doing test and tune, and while he is turning around on the road (at idle, maybe a little above) his finger taps the button. It coughs once, then runs real rough, so he takes it home and calls me. The next day we pull off the valve cover and find two broken rocker studs, and 4 bent pushrods. Luckily that is all he hurt, and he added a hi/lo rpm switch that weekend. Cylinder pressure is a wonderful thing!
