Who's Running a MECH n20 Pressure gauge in their pod?How dangerous is it?See My Idea

Hey guys,

how many of u guys are? How dangerous is it?

I had an idea, i have the 4in Glastek Cowl hood...if i cant get this into the Pod being its MECH, can i somehow mount the gauge on the hood from underneath the cowl part so that when i'm driving i can see it? Cause it has the mounting bracket on top so i could bolt it onto the hood so where no one will see it except for if your sitting in the car ya know? i know its gay, but i thought i'd just see what u guys think and/or if its possible!

thanks!

i've seen a lot of guys mount their gauges inside the cowl induction....and personally though it looks bad ***....

anyway...i have a mechanical nitrous gague...on the a-pillar...not sure how safe...but i figure i could blame autometer and get a lawsuit incase it ever breaks and sprays at me....

Now that i think about, it is pretty unsafe...900 psi spraying at me...i'm gonna go remount mine now

I'm in the process of modifying a couple of pillar gauge pods to mount an AF gauge and mech N2O gauge in my cowl. I'm going to put a thin piece of aluminum bent sort of like the mounting brackets for the gauges on the inside of the modified pods and then epoxy the brackets in place up inside the cowl. Here's a pic of how they are looking so far. FWIW I plan on wiring the backlight on the N2O gauge into the WOT switch.

Most gauges use -3 line, it has a burst strenght of more than 2000 psi and I think the blow down goes before 2k psi

As Dirk points out, the gauge comes from AutoMeter with a restrictor fitting to limit the flow of nitrous in the event there is a break anywhere in the system inside the cockpit. Of course if you haven't installed the setup properly, your legal recoarse against AutoMeter may be limited.... .

I have a 2 5/8" Ultralite gauge in my center vent.

It uses a restrictor fitting as mentioned, but mine uses a 4an line, NOT 3an. It may be because it is a slightly older model....I've had it for over 2 years now, and god knows how long it sat on the shelf at Jegs (I live near their stores).

Hmm...maybe glue a piece of wood or something to the underneath of the cowl hood and screw the gauge to that? Cause theres a top mounting bracket on the gauge with holes that a screw will fit in...??

any ideas?

ive got a gauge on the bottle itself. since my bottle is mounted right behind the seat, i can keep pretty good tabs on it. i really didnt want to spend the $$$ to buy the autometer gauge and the pod deal but ive never heard of it being unsafe. hell, ive got my bottle right behind my seat! the gauge would be the last thing id be worrying about

as for the cowl hood thing, i personally think it looks pretty good but, its really defeating the purpose of having one by blocking the cowl. if yours is more for looks anyway, i say go for it.

Ya i hear ya, but the cowl hood has an opening ya know? so i could stick it underneath it so that the way u can see it is if your sitting in the car...so it wouldnt be blocking anything ya know?

Well I say if you have a cowl and your not carbed then the cowl is pointless anyway.
