What is the best thing to use with nitrous to retard the timing when nitrous is on?
What is the best thing to use to retard the timing when the nitrous is on? I want something that I can drive around with full timing with and then when I turn the nitrous on, it will pull back timing. I was thinking about selling my MSD 6AL and getting a Digital 6 but I was wanting to know if there was a cheaper way with something that will work with my MSD 6AL. I dont want anything hard to use, just something that will pull back timing when the nitrous is on.

Me too. But it looks like upgrading the ignition to a dig. 6 or similar is the only way to go right now.

I've heard that the add on retard boxes pull 4 degrees of timing all the time. I don't want to pull timing N/A. Only on juice. Can anyone verify if this is true? That's the only reason why I haven't gotten one yet.

MSD #8982
Start/Retard Control
Start retard eases cranking on engines with locked-out timing.
Single stage retard for high rpm or nitrous applications.
Choose 10° or 25° of retard during cranking.
For use on 4, 6 or 8-cylinder engines.
This new timing control is the direct result of MSD being at the races and listening to what racers want. With the large number of engines running locked-out timing, racers wanted a simple way to retard the timing during cranking plus have a single stage of retard available. The start retard provides either 10° or 25° of retard during cranking only. The timing will retard only while cranking and returns to the set mechanical timing once the engine starts and you release the key. Along with the start retard, this new Control also has a single stage of retard. This one retard can be activated in times of nitrous to prevent detonation or high rpm to achieve a little more top end. The amount of retard is adjustable with plug-in modules and is activated by a single wire that can be connected directly to a nitrous solenoid or a micro switch on the shifter. The Start/Retard Control is easy to install and program. It must be used with an MSD Ignition Control.
Start/Retard Control - PN 8982
Not legal for sale or use on emission controlled vehicles.

You can trick the cpu to pull 4 deg of timing out by messing with the ait. When the air temp reaches a certian temp it pulls out a max of 4 deg.(at least on my vette cpu). You have to find out what the resistance of the sensor is when it reaches that. Then have it hooked to another relay that is triggered when on the gas and it will switch over to the set resistor. I think it should be 750ohms. Almost just like the KR bypass swithch.
