Too many miles??`
Too many miles??`
Hey Guys,
I've got a '94 Z28 with almost 87000 miles. I've been thinking about putting nitrous on the car for some time now but I'm afraid that I have too many miles on the car where it'll be a problem. The motor itself is stock but I have just about every bolt-on you can think of on it. I was thinking of a dry kit with only 125 hp spray. I would only use it occasionally at the drag strip and such. So what do you think, worth it or would I run into too many possible engine problems.

bought mine years ago with 86k on it . put the nos05176 125 dry kit on it. must've run 15 bottles through it to 92k miles. never any problems. with K/N FIPK, 1.5 roller rockers, mallory hyfire IV ignition box, flowtech terminator muffler, and stock 2.73 gear auto it went 13.60 NA. on the button it went 12.24 @ 113.90
There are many people with high mileage LT1's with nitrous. As long as your motor is not shot already from beating the car all the time, you should be fine with a 100,125. A 150 shot is what most people consider the limits with LT1's. Some go on from there to 175's and 200 shots but there are much less guys in that boat.
Nitrous is not bad for a engine as long as you use it correctly. I would get a new intank fuel pump no matter if you get a dry or wet kit. On top of your basic kit there are many safety accessories. If you get a NX wet kit and the package of goodies you'll be cool. But there are many other companies making kits. good luck

I bought my '96 with 82k on the clock. A4 car with 2.73s. I wnt a best of 13.62 @ 102 bone stock. Added K&N, Cat-back, and a 150 wet shot and the car went 12.0s @ 115 w/ a slipping tranny. I drove the car EVERY day for about a year and a half and raced it just about every weekend. The car had 114k when I got rid of it. Lots of fun and trouble free.
It's fairly simple to do yourself, and CAN BE very cheap depending on who you listen to on the boards. I got my complete kit for about 450 brand new, installed it in about 4hrs, ran it for 1.5 yrs, never had any problems, and had a blast.
All of the fuel system/motor was completely stock. Only
"safety net" I got was a WOT switch from Jimmy Jams.
I wouldn't say that a 150 is the limit of a LT1. There are a whole handful of guys running 175-200 shot on the stock bottom end. I would say. however, that a 150 is more than enough for the 4L60. If you have a A4, I would stick with a 100 shot if you want longer life out of the tranny. But they're weak anyway, so even if you stick with a 100 shot, still plan on rebuilding the tranny a yr or so after you add the juice...
Good Luck, Jon
