Thinking about nitrous

I'm considering using a nitrous kit on my completely stock 94' Z. I was just wondering what would be the safe limit on how large of a shot to use, anything I am gonna need in addition to the basic kits. Also, what is a good company for the Camaro, I like Zex but I haven't really heard anything about the performance of their kits on a LT1.

also timing retard is a good idea, window switch, fuel pressure safety switch, and NON platinum plugs.

You deffinetly need a window switch and new plugs that are gapped smaller. Like NGK TR6's.

your stock engine, if prepped right can handle 150 shot. That means...do a good tuneup, get a good ign. box and plugs, new fuel filter, clean your injectors....and bump the octane a few if you are gonna go upto 150 shot.

Bump it to what? I already only run 93, do I need to go higher than that? I was gonna pick up a MSD Digital-6 Plus ignition system, I have heard I should get the NGK TR6 plugs.

Also, noone ever answered my question about the ZEX kits. Are they any good? And lastly, what exactly is a window switch?

thinking

Im in the same boat going from a blown aplication to solid roller, big heads and n2o.The msd digital 6 is nice it has a timing retard that you can wire in with your selinoids to retard the timing when you hit the spray.I would upgrade the ignition better wires better coil tr6 plugs spray 125 to her and have some fun by the way i have some friends who sware by the tnt kit look at them before you make your decision also nos we deal with them every day and they have been doing it longer than anybody else

i am thinkin about gettin a small one...ya know like 50 or 75....just a little something to help out because i dont really want to get into replacing fuel pumps and injectors and everything else right now...i can handle replacing spark plugs but the rest is just a little too much right now....i want to go with 1.6 RRs i have heard that u have to retard timing a certain amount for every 50hp you put to it...how does that effect driving the times that your not hittin the juice?...if i was to put in a 75 shot would i need to do anything to the rest of the car for that?

you can run a 50-75 shot with non platinum plugs and stock timing. anything over that, you might wanna consider fuel/ignition upgrades.

What I ment by bumping the octane up is..either ad a fuel octane booster along with the 93 octane or find a station that has "high" octane gas like 108 or 110 octane. They are not that common but they are the best bet. You only need to do this if you shoot a 150 shot or higher.

Since you are only spraying a 50 - 75 shot then ......
you don't need to replace your injectors just have them looked at by a mechanic to make sure they are up to the task.
you don't need to adjust the engine timing while spraying.
you don't need to up the octane, 93 is fine.
you DO still need to change the plugs to whatever the nitrous system manufacturer says to.

About the window switch...check out www.msdignition.com and look for their "window switch". The product description should be all you need. Basically it senses the engine RPM and you need to set it for whatever "rpm window" you wanna spray at. For example, if I was you, I would set it to start spraying at 3000rpms and shut off at about 200 rpms below redline which is around 5600 rpms or so on your car. Maybe someone else can chime in and verify this. The window switch is a good safety mechanism but I would also use a WOT (wide open throttle) switch so it only is armed when the GO pedal is on the floorboard.

enjoy

ps- you may wanna purchase a nitrous system that has room to grow because you are gonna want more after you spray that 75 shot...

And about ZEX, I have "herd" good things about them but I would only go with NOS myself!
