Should i get nitrous?

My mods are in the sig and the car has around 85k on it. I just bought a daily driver so i will be using my car at the track and runing around on weekends. But i was thinking of adding a 100 shot. I will get a good wet kit with all the goodies like window switch, fpss, new fuel pump, ect. But i really cant afford to rebuild my motor but alot of people spray a 100 with no problem. How long would my tranny take it? could i take my car to mid 11's with a 100 shot?

Are you going to use the window switch so that you don't spray through the shifts? If you don't it's hard to say, depends the overall condition that it's in now. You'll be fine motor wise, you're doing it right by going with all the safety stuff & new pump. What are you running now at the track?

I dont know what i run now. I never ran my car with the cam it it but i would guess 12.5 to 12.8ish. So a 100 shot would be around mid 11's correct??

Technically yes, but that’s taking track conditions and traction out of the picture.

Re: Should i get nitrous?

your eventually going to need a new clutch, a new rear, and a new tranny.

Expect to break those things in time.

Yeah, if not in that exact order.

Re: Should i get nitrous?

I have a auto and i am expected to blow it after a few months of nitrous, but for some odd reason i am not worried about my rear end at all. The guy that set up my rear end did alot to it and he said that he went low 11's on his rear that was setup the same way. He said it lasted 2 or 3 years at low 11's.

the rears tend to live longer on automatic cars but it always a coin toss

Re: Should i get nitrous?

I'm running a 150-shot of NO2 on my '97 LT1. I have 120,000 miles on it. It has:
JBA headers
BBK 52mm Throttle Body
SLP Loudmouth
Built Trans
Subframes

It runs 12.3 on 150-shot.
If your car is already running 100-shot, it should take anywhere from .9 to 1.1 seconds off of your quarter-mile time.
I am running the Nitrous Express kit and 150 jetting took 1.4 seconds off my on-motor time.

Re: Should i get nitrous?

As far as your transmission goes, make sure you install a real good trans cooler and get the transmission flushed. I would not install a window switch. It is perfectly fine to have the transmission shift on the nitrous if you have an automatic. I recommend a window switch for manuals only.

If you have any more questions, you can call

He has been doing nitrous kits since 1992.

While I'll quickly disagree with you regarding spraying through the shifts on a stock 4L60E, I think it's also important to point out that a window switch also prevents you from spraying at too low of an RPM and having a nitrous backfire that blows your intake ducting apart.

There is no downside to installing a window switch other than spending the $, but nitrous isn't the wisest thing to cut corners on IMHO.

Re: Should i get nitrous?

As far as a nitrous backfire goes, he should not have to worry about that with a 2800 stall torque converter. Nitrous should not be engaged until 3000 RPM, so as soon as his car moves, it should be at 3000 RPM and he should be fine. If the car shifts through the nitrous, he should get better quarter-mile times. I also think it would be easier on the solenoids to stay on rather than switching off and on down the track. When I put my nitrous kit on, I had 75k miles on the stock trans and I let it shift on the nitrous until about 119,000 miles when it finally went. (Without any trans-cooler). Yes, a window switch is safe, but with his application, it is unneccessary.

Re: Should i get nitrous?

You all make awesome points, i had a problem when i used to run n2o on my 94 was a tnt f2 kit jetted at 100, msd digital 6 wot switch fuel pressure switch and window switch.

chucked each spark plug end on 7 and 8 threw the valve. but you know things happen right?

What i would be worried about myself if going to spray threw shifts is the possibility of it slipping just a little and smacking the stock rev limiter.

Im definatly not as knowledgable as most of you guys, but id recomment a ignition box to sit the rev limiter on it and either move the stock revlimiter out of site or move the new one below the old.

Factory rev limiter plus nitrous would not be forgiving at all.
