Running 11's N/A & 10's N20 (Smog Legal/Kinda)
Running 11's N/A & 10's N20 (Smog Legal/Kinda)
I bought Ken Mooks short block which is basically forged everything and 11.1 compersion that I'm having APE finish. What I want to do is beable to run 11's n/a and 10's n20. Now i have already talked to Chris at APE and he said that this motor will beable to hold a 200 shot easy, but i really only want to run a 150 shot at the most. What I would like to know is what would i have to do far as the cam and heads to get there? So here is a couple questions.
1. Can I run CC305 with that big of a shot or would you guys suggest using a cam that is made to run with n20?
2. Could i use the stock heads and just get them ported & polished or should i go with a afr head?
PS: I know that the CC305 is about as big as i can go here in California with it still passing smog. Now if i put heads on will this effect me passing smog or not. All i really have to pass is the sniffer, not visual.

If you have a fully forged short block, why only run a 150 shot?? Might as well run a stock shortblock (I run heads/cam/150 shot on my bone stock shortblock without a problem). At minimum spray a 200 shot.
As for passing emissions, IMO your best bet it to slip the testing guy a $100. There are some LT1 programs out there that have very lean setups designed ONLY for emissions testing (aka you drive on the street and you will harm your motor). But it's a crap shoot at that point. Beyond that....dunno, we don't test around here.

Well if you have a good tune and your car is setup you should have no problems attaining your goals. I ran 10.80's@126mph with a 226-234@50 custom cam, stock bottomend, ported LT1 heads with stock valves(Lloyd Elliott $600), 3.42's, Jethot longtubes, trueduals and a 150shot. I am still running LT1 casting heads withe bigger valves, forged bottomend 355" LT1 and a CC306 and run 10.30's@130mph on a 150 shot so it would still run 10.50's or better with a CC305. I stepped up to 175HP and went 10.20's@132mph this past weekend.

Watch what you do around here with smog crap. $100 won't do it for ya' around here. The smog tech will go to jail and they know it! I have a decent hookup, but that's only because I personally know the guy.
Also if you fail real bad then you become a gross polluter, then it's test only after that. Or if you get a real azz then you'll be labeled as "modified"! Not good. See what what everybody else in California is doing and you'll get an idea.
A hot cam is passing here, and so are the 383's with bigger cams. (what I plan to do.) Good luck.
