retard timing?? msd??

i am adding the nos dry kit and will be spraying 140 or 150 shot. i got a msd 6a ignition already. i heard that you need to pull timing 2-4 degrees when spraying 150 shot. msd has two timing controlers. one of them you can chose when you want the timing to start and end. do i want that or not? SO SAY N20 STARTS AT 3500RPM START TIMING AT 3500RPM AND SHUTS N20 OFF AT 5500 AND timing off at 5500 or whatever. do i want that one or just one that i change the timing and leave it without shyting it on and off. thanks for your help.

Here's what I did.

I've got the MSD 6AL with a window switch, throttle switch, and button in the car for nitrous activation. I added the MSD8680 timing retard and pulled the power from the output of the window switch. When the nitrous comes on the timing retard is activated as well and it retards instantly to whatever you have the **** turned to. Works great for me.

I am using the MSD 8982 timing retard. I have it wired through a relay and it only pulls timing when the selenoids are open. That way I can still run full timing if the master switch is armed but timing will be pulled when the N2O sprays. It also uses pills and eliminates the chance of me forgetting to dial in with the **** or hitting the **** by mistake.

I don't believe there will be any problems with the change in timing when getting off the spray. I have yet to run the system with the new timing controll set up but it is common practice and I do not know of anyone who could blame N2O damage to the timing jump while the N2O clears out of the intake. At the higher RPM where you run spray (>3K) the volume of intake air is cleared by less than 1 revolution.

With the timing MSD timing controller I am using you can not wire it through the window switch. The timing controller is activated when the ground loop is removed from the box not when added. The window switch operates by closing the ground loop with in the set RPM. That is why I had to wire it through a relay.
