Post purge question

I see people all the time placing bags of ice on their instake to cool then engine down before the runs... Why is that I have never heard of anyone purging their system inside their engine bay? would it be cold enough to make any difference? (I'm sure there is a very logical explanation why people don't do it... sorry! I hope the question is not too dumb)

there are a few problems with this.

One is that in order to cool it down enough to make a dif you would be wasting n20 (which isn't cheap) and also causing your bottle pressure to go to ****.

Another reason is cause there is the posibility that N20 could get into your intake and cause detination.

I have never had a n2o system on my car, so I don't know to much about it anyway, what I heard is that is pretty damn cold, so I though it might make a different if it was purged aiming the top of the intake in just seconds.

You could do it, and it would cool the intake off, but most sanctioning bodys only allow you to purge the nitrous outside the car. And also, think of it this way. What do you think happens when you hit the nitrous button? All that nitrous is injected inside your intake. As the nitrous exits the nozzle/spraybar, it boils as it hits the atmosphere. This happens at -130 degrees. That intake charge is very cold. No reason to purge on intake before the run, it will get very chilled during the pass!

bottom line... unless vast amounts of N02 is being purged for a long duration (wasteful), it's not going to cool the intake much at all. I could go into the thermodynamics and heat transfer of it all, but please take my word for it.
