NX solenoid rebuild ?

i have an NX solenoid taht stuck open at teh track this past sat night...nearly blew my motor but i shut down in time

anyways, i was wondering, is there a way to rebuild the solenoid, what part could be sticking? i have taken the top nut off and looked at the magnet and it seems to be ok and that's as far as i have gotten.

any help here would be appreciated, or would i be better off just finding another solenoid.

Re: NX solenoid rebuild ?

I hope you don't mind a little uneducated guessing.

The solenoid is operated by a magnetic coil activated when current is applied (obviously). There is a return spring atop or beneath a piston which counteracts the magnetic coil when power is no longer applied. This back and forth power play opens and closes the ports within a cylinder where this "piston" moves under the power of the coil and spring tension.

If a solid object enters the piston / cylinder / port area and wedges between any of these, the solenoid becomes jammed. If any part of the solenoid breaks apart, the pieces can become the jamming object.

I think all you can do is try blowing a liquid and/or fluid (air is a fluid btw) through the openings while alternately applying power to the solenoid. You may find what is jamming the thing. If it isn't a particle broken from the unit then you may have just repaired the thing.

good luck with this.

If you unscrew the stem from the base you will be able to inspect the plunger and the seat. Solenoids really don't get stuck open unless there is something stuck in them, or the plunger it self had a large chunk come out and is no longer able to seat.
