Well, since nobody else has answered yet...I'll offer what little I know.

I've only seen 2 versions of the NX opener...both were purple...not to say there couldn't be another, but I've never seen or heard of one.

Where did you get it? If it's used, perhaps someone special-ordered it black or painted it? Can you post a picture of it? Are you sure it's an NX, and not just a different one with an NX sticker? <shrug>

Dave - Do you recall what the difference was between the 1st generation and the 2nd of the purple ones? I know I bought mine when they were first released, then I thought they came out with a "improved" version about a year later. I vaguely recall something about it being slightly shorter or something? Any clutch/motor differences? Just curious...thanks!

Also, I think the difference is the newer version will work with all nitrous bottle, including the NOS bottles where the older version doesn't.

OK according to Ricky at NX. The very first purple ones were tall. Then NX went to the short style purple ones and then took the color to black.

I'm glad they went to black. I didn't like the purple that much.

Brian,

What issue were you having the the bottle valve? I've been having some issues with the bottle opener having troubles opening, but closing is fine. I've adjusted the screw on the bottle opener, but sometimes it'll open and sometimes it won't, especially when you need it

I notice sometimes it takes some effort to manually open the valve with the regular handle installed.

Thanks,

Jody J.

LOL...that sucks, but then again I've never really "needed" it...

Actually, my problem was 2 fold...first the valve was leaking when fully closed, so I lost an entire bottle.

Second, like yours, mine was intermittently difficult to open.

As the problem presented itself, I tightened the clutch several times and eventually it was opening/closing the bottle too hard. This only made the problem worse and I'm sure having the clutch too tight to begin with is what led to both problems.

The new valve from Nitro Dave opens and closes 1000% better and smoother. It's the new 45degree valve and I allow it to overrun as little as possible...that reminds me, I should backoff my clutch a bit too.

Cool, thanks for the info I guess I'll e-mail Nitro Dave and get pricing on two valves. Was it easy/straight forward on replacing the valve?

Thanks,

Jody J.

Re: NX bottle opener whats the diff black or purple?

It's a simple process...just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. The problem is they are TIGHT! This is actually the second time I had to replace one. The first time we couldn't hold the bottle without it slipping, so we actually jacked up my car and put the bottle under the rear tire and brought most of the weight down on it to hold it, then the valve came off piece of cake...LOL! This time, I took two 2' long bar clamps and clamped them to the bottle and laid it down on the ground and sat on it...the bar clamps gave me much more leverage.

I'm sure you could just get Robert Wilson to hold the bottle while you turn the wrench!
