Nitrous is the thing for me I believe.

I have decided to get nitrous. It is for me because i am a poor college guy. I do however have the normal array of questions from you guys, and i hope to have them answered.

I know some stuff about nitrous and some about the installation, because i have been doing some research here on the board and elsewhere.

Here are my questions:

1. What is the cheapest setup that comes with the goodies needed to make everything work like silenoids, WOT switch and what not?

2. I dont know how much of a shot i would like to use but im thinking 75 to 100. My car is very close to stock, so i dont know what it can or cant handle.

3. I read things here on the board about guys having over 100 shot and having a timing retard issue of some sort. If i have this problem, how is it corrected? Is it cheap to take care of?

4. I see this site called Jimmy Jam's i believe has some cool custom switch plate type stuff. Are there other sites with such things?

5. Finally, i think i would like to do a stealth type installation, it will have to be in the spare wheel well. Where is the best place to run the fuel lines, and will there be enough line?

Im a smart kid, and have done several hands on type stuff on my car, and i think i can do this install with some time.

I very much appreciate the help that you guys give me. I do hope to have answers to these questions so i can get going on having some FUN!

Thanks Guys (and gals i suppose)

the basic kits comes with solenoids, enough line from bottle in spare well to engine, full throttle switch, arming toggle.

really dont need a retard for a 100 shot if you use nx.

100 is fine for a stocker.

jimmy jams makes the custom full throttle switch bracket, only 1 like it i have seen, but there are hundreds of sites with accesories.

i ran the nitrous feed line under the carpet through the firewall.

Welcome to the darkside young padawan.

A 150 shot is fine on a stock engine as well. I've been running that for years with no problems.

Get a MSD ignition box with timing retard and colder plugs as well.

Good Luck

thanks guys. 96birdlt1, how much was your kit and msd and everything as far as cost alltogether. was it under 400 or 450? Is it also safe to run a 200 shot like that also if you have the timing retard? A friend of mine said i also needed an msd box that controls the sparks at certain rpms for safety? Thanks again guys, more input would be great.

The LS1's shortblock is stronger than the LT1's, people have pushed the limits way farther than with an LT1. But is 200 shot is going to be a risk any way you cut it. I am in the same spot as you- broke college kit who want to go real fast. A dual stage or a progressive controller would help engine life at that amount of nitrous. Hope you have the money for a rebuild in case of a bad day with a juice. But if that happens than you just build it stronger and go with bigger jets.

My kit alone was around $500. A MSD and harness look at spending another $200 or so , if you buy brand new. Look at the parts for sale section. I've gotten alot of great deals there.

Oh, by the way, I know better now, but I did not have a MSD ignition and retard the timing for the first 2 years running a 150 shot. I didn't have any problems, but every engine is different. Don't do like I did. Play it safe.
