Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

Ok....I was lookign at the ZeX wet kit they have at LS1Speed.com....

I am REALLY TEMPTED!... 100+ hp for $580! Woah!

It's just the typical steriotypes that get me. I am afraid of the dreaded N2O sneeze, you can't use it in 1st and you can't use it under 2k rpm... I'll need window switches.... what about a purge kit for the ZEX kit?? I really don't want to drill holes in the floor to mount it. But it could keep PPL from sitting in back of me...

I still think that there is nothing more intimidating than the purge.

I've read up on this a bit in the GMHTP Jiant nitrous issue. I'd like to feel that snap of acceleration. I was thinking of getting the FAST intake anyway. I could get the burst pannels w/ it...

I suppose I'm just looking for persuasion.

Yes yes yes!

Imagine with only a 100 shot putting down over 400rwhp and 500ft-lbs. Then think about what a 150 would do!

You dont need a purge unless you want it.

Get a heater, you'll thank me later if you like to keep your bottle warm for the occasional street race you didn't see coming.

You don't need a window switch, esp if you are going from a roll where you know where you are going to start spraying from. But it's a good thing to have if you drag it.

I say get it, and go pound some 03-04 cobras!

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

There are alot of good kits to choose from. NX makes a very good and complete kit that also has very good documentation and quality parts. Both Nitro Dave and Harris Speed Works also make their own custom kits which are very nice as well.

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

I've read that NX makes a good kit. I'll have to read up on that GMHTP issue again. They got some good stuff in there...

They mentioned something about valve and solinoid quality.

Oh yeah, I know what issue you are talking about, that issue has some amazing nitrous writeups in it. It actually gave me some good ideas that helped me with my install as well. Yeah, quality is key with a nitrous kit, you may pay a little more for a name brand kit, but at least you know you have durable, quality solenoids and hardware.

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

ZEX say they have the trigger thing down.. what's wrong w/ microswitches? they get dirty? Corrosion?

If I get a wet kit I should get it tuned, just to be safe right?

Are the kits interchangeable? If I want to get a bottle warmer from NOS, or a purge kit from them and throw it on the ZEX kit, would that work?

Yeah.. I'm a RELIGIOUS reader of GMHTP... LOVE it... Subscriber too... I still have the Speed Inc 98 Z28 blown 710hp issue back home. Summer 04?

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

I'm not sure why Zex doesn't use the microswitches, but I am sure reliability is not one of the reasons. The Speed Inc. Z28... was that the one with the turbo? If so, I know which one you are talking about, I think that issue is a little newer then the Summer of 04, I will have to dig it up though.

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

I think I'll go w/ either the ZEX for the NX kit. I've heard good about the NX. Gonna get the FAST intake w/ bust pannels.

Where can I get a gauge kit/black plastic piece for the cubby hole in front of the shifter?

Re: Nitrous Newb...Being tempted!

What about fuel system upgrades for a 100 -150 shot??

I am looking at the NX wet kit. Not the DPI.. That's too much for now. I like the simplicity of ZEX but there are a couple things that catch me.. Small but they still get me.

ZEX aparently uses a purple colored fitting for the fuel line... I'd rather stay w/ the norm of RED.

ZEX has their little module can regulate the flow by monitoring bottle and fuel pressures.

The ZEX kit is convincing...

NX has an in depth installation manual. Nitrous Dave's section in the Febuary 06 GMHTP places a lot of confidence in the NX solenoids.

Which is more prone to backfire/sneeze.....wet or dry? I would think wet.. How efficiently can a MAF pick up on n20 desity??

What about wear and tare on chassis components? DS?

I am understanding this better and better as days go by. It's like super/turbo charging...it's just sprayed and you have to be JUST as cautious w/ that as you do nitrous. This is starting to get overwhelming...
