nitrous help please

Last night I sprayed at the track and the car would pull hard for a couple seconds then you could feel it drop off. I would let off the button and hit it again and it would pull then drop off, like its losing pressure. It was doing this before so I rerouted the n2o line seemed to help some but it still drops off. Any ideas on this? I'm pretty much lost. Btw I'm running an 85-90 shot on a nitrous works kit.

Re: nitrous help please

Do you have a bottle pressure gauge? Is the bottle almost empty?

I don't have a pressure gauge but I had the bottle filled before I left yesterday.

Re: nitrous help please

you need a n2o pressure gauge and a bottle heater to help maintain the pressure.

Re: nitrous help please

I know I need a bottle heater but would the pressure just die off like that without one?

Re: nitrous help please

Not sure where in IN you're located, but with as cool as it's been around the Chicagoland area these past few days I would expect the bottle pressure to be way down.

I'd get a bottle pressure gauge and see what it's doing.

Re: nitrous help please

If you have a fuel pressure regulator installed, you might have it set too high.

Re: nitrous help please

I meant a fuel pressure safety switch.

Re: nitrous help please

Thanks for all the help. I'm gonna get a n2o pressure gauge and hopefully that will give some more info on the problem.

Re: nitrous help please

last time i heard of that happening, it wasnt nitrous pressure at all.

the surge was the fuel pressure cutoff switch..

when he first sprayed, there was enough pressure... but the pump wasnt pushing enough volume, so the pressure dropped off... then the fuel saftey switch closed. cutting off the nitrous.
of course, as soon as its cut off, the pressure builds, and it opens again... letting the nitrous flow...then it gets cut off.. ect....

so you get a nice shot out of the hole, then its cutting on and off, not doing much.

i suggest you get a fuel pressure gauge..

Re: nitrous help please

I thought I had a fuel pump problem so I checked the pressure about a week or so ago. The pressure never went below 45 psi at wot. I don't have a fuel pressure cutoff switch so thats not the problem. But thanks for the reply.

Re: nitrous help please

I would check to make sure your nitrous kit is wired correct. If you don't have a relay for the solenoids I would recommend getting one. Check to make sure you have a strong supply of power to the solenoid. What maybe happening is when you trigger the nitrous kit initially there is enought power to energise the solenoid coil to open but as you make a run or continue to hold the trigger on, the flow of power to solenoid will decrease to the point of closing the solenoid off due to lack of not enought continues power.

If your nitrous system uses the small Powershot sized solenoids remember these solenoids will draw amps in the range of 8.6 for nitrous solenoid and .6 for the fuel. Make sure your wiring will support this.

Re: nitrous help please

I do have it on a relay, and I'm prett sure its wired correct. Thats a good Idea though I'll check the wiring and amp draw and see what I get. Thanks

Re: nitrous help please

Without a bottle heater and good pressure, the other side effect is you're running a rich mixture, that gets richer each time you fire off a shot. This hurts your performance even further. The bottle will get colder and colder as it decompresses from each shot.
