nitrous
nitrous
I have been thinking about doing a major modification to my car over the summer. I either want to do nos or i want to switch the gearing. I would rather do nos becuase it wouldn't kill my gas mileage. I was thinking about doing a nx system with a 100 shot. My car has about 114000 miles on it but it has a brand new opti, fuel pump, plugs, wires, cat and exhaust. I know thats a lot of miles but i have heard that eventhough you may have high miles you can run nos as long as you don't do too heavy of a shot. I have heard that it can be detrimental to your engine, i'm not sure if that is true becuase all your doing is putting more oxegen in your engine but thats why i am asking you. Thanks for the replys.
Re: nitrous
As you mentioned, on the surface just adding more oxygen to an engine dosn't seem like it could cause anything bad, but think of what a cutting torch does when you turn the oxygen **** up some...it then starts to cut through anything.....the amount of oxygen introduced with even a moderate shot of nitrous is a pretty large quanity, and needs fairly close to the right amount of enrichment fuel to add the power and keep things cool enough to not melt things.......On a moderate shot (I'd say 75 to 125 for your good running higher mileage motor), as long as it dosn't EVER go lean, you should be fine.......Just remember, even a 50 or 75 shot has the potential of destroying a perfectly good engine if things go lean....many guys out there don't respect the way things should be hooked up, and cut some very important corners... there usually the ones that develop severe engine problems ....get a good kit(a wet kit in my opinion), with all the failsafes(fuel pressure safety switch, window switch, one step colder plugs, Ect...) and make sure your fuel pump is still in good working order and let 'er rip

Re: nitrous
An NX wet kit is a very good kit to go with. I would get the GEN-X2 upgrade package as well which has the bottle heater, fuel pressure safety switch, and a few other safety goodies. Also, a window switch is another highly recommended part to ensure the longevity of your motor.
