Question kinda new & could use a hand

I own a 1995 Z28 bought last year with 31k on the clock. Only upgrade is the k&n airbox. My wife has figured out our taxes & I'm allowed 1 upgrade until I pay off my credit card. My thought is go big 1st Nitrous. But what I need to know is do I have to do anything 1st before I do the gas? exhaust chip am i missing something or can i just throw the bottle on & what's the highest hp jet I can use?

Since this is a nitrous specific question, I'll move it to the Nitrous forum for ya...

And heck, if your wife is running the budget and only put a limit on the number of mods you do, might as well go really big and just get a supercharger. Or better yet, buy a pre-built 383 or something for like $15,000. That'll be a "single mod".

IMHO if you're going to use N2O, read everything you can find about it so you can make a very informed decision. Be sure to take into consideration that the basic kits you see advertised for 500 bucks or so seldom if ever have any safety features like a window switch or fuel pressure switch included, so if you intend to use them (I'd suggest you do), that will weigh in on the final cost. Be sure to NOT use platinum plugs, and change your fuel filter often.

Here's a couple of links that may be helpful to you.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD! Nirtous is a good power adder if you dont get gready.you will want to use a aftermaket ign. box and if you car is and auto you dont have to have a widow switch(but you can use one to save tranny life) guys run 150 shots on stock motor's see sig I dont recomend that for everyone! those who drive there car everyday and have to depend on it to get to work and stuff shouldnt go past 100 shot.. which the stock pump will be fine with for anymore I like to run a 255 lph pump, colder pulgs and for the faint of heart people a timing retard ..(who needs that ) just read up on it and make sure it is what you want and most of all dont get greaddy better ET is just a pill change a way and that is where alot of cars go boom. you might look into headders and gear for what you pay for a good N20 setup you will have something for everyday driving and without the risk of N20 good luck on your quest for speed.PS cut the wife off

Yes you can go straight to the bottle. Just read everything you can find about it a post and questions on here or give someone like NX a call. I say NX because they have been good to many of us. I personally have a 75 shot right now with only the basic of mods.

read into it first! you want to know as much as you can before you spray.

here are good things to have:

good quality wet kit to help avoid lean conditions

digital ignition that has a rev limiter that cuts spark(stock rev limiter cuts fuel=big no-no!) and has a way to retard spark if you spray a 150 shot.

fuel pressure shutoff switch in case your fuel pressure drops (very possible if on rich stock tune and 150 shot).

non-platinum spark plugs and good wires

did i miss anything??

oh yeah, tires are essential! i know when i spray 150 with my street tires (dunlop sp8000's are junk) from a roll, they would break loose easily in 2nd and 3rd gear. now i have 2 sets of rear tires, one set of nicely broke in BFG DR's and a set of ET Streets!

Thanks for all the advice will ponder all of it & let you guys know what I'm going to do. I figure I have a couple months to decide as she never leaves the garage in the winter months.
