Ignition with Nitrous

I am planning on running the dynotune nitrous kit soon and I was wondering how to tie the MSD Window Switch and Mallory Retard Control together?? Will these work with my stock ignition or will I have to get something like the MSD 6A??

Re: Ignition with Nitrous

From what I was told, it is pretty difficult to even put a timing control on our cars...unless you splice it into the actual pcm, have a digital box, or program it into the car. I am going through the same troubles right now. I have the 6AL, msd retard and digital window switch...and have been told I'm plain out of luck!! Take the timing out through the pcm and I lost over 20rwhp!! Do a search under my screen name and read away...very dissapointing!

I think MSD shows a wiring diagram for hooking the retard box into the 6AL on your car. Did you buy the harness to hook the 6AL to the coil?If so MSD shows a hook up for your setup

Personally, I'm not running a timing retard box. I have a 6AL w/ window switch. I used tunercat to pull 2 degrees at everything above 3400 at WOT in a "NO2 only tune"

Re: Ignition with Nitrous

Can I run the window switch without a 6AL ignition?? Losing 10-20whp N/A is pretty crazy. I guess I could simply have 2 seperate tunes and just load a "NO2" and a "N/A" tune.

I have a mallory hyfire vi that has a timing retard when 12vdc is applied to a certain wire on the box. Also has a boost referenced timing retard. Pretty handy box

I believe you can. The function of the window switch is to turn something on or off at a certain rpm. So I'm sure you can trigger it to fire yourr Mallory Retard box. Just remember that the contact inside the window switch won't handle a lot of amperage. It just needs a signal from your tach and when the signal matches the pill you've put in, it will fire the retard box. If you would like I can set you up with the schematics for how to wire you nitrous up.
Shoot me an email at skipwillis@comcast.net and I'll fix you up

Re: Ignition with Nitrous

That makes sense. The window switch I was looking is this one
http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...?idproduct=138

So I would just run the output of that to the timing retard box as well as the relay for my nitrous. Correct??

What is Mallory's part number of your mallory retard control?

Re: Ignition with Nitrous

I remember a retard control by Mallory being mentioned in another thread but now I can't find it. I was just asking questions before hand so I know what I need to get once I have enough money.

Re: Ignition with Nitrous

The mallory box has Window switch, Timing retard and its a ignition all in one.

Thats why I don't like MSD b/c you have to buy like 5 different little boxes.

I looked around quite a bit and I bought my from Jegs on sale but I think they still have the best price. I think they run about 230 or 240

I've got the same box; it's awesome. I had a MSD Digital 6 and a seperate window switch. I was able to sell both of those used for more than what my Mallory cost me.

That fact you can just change any setting you want w/ a push of a button is a big plus. Will also wire in easily using an MSD LT1 harness.
