How to wire purge and bottle heater?
How to wire purge and bottle heater?
I have a TNT wet plate kit for my LT1...I want to put the bottle heater and purge on seperate relays. Can someone fab me up a diagram showing me how to wire both? I would like the bottle heater to be on when I want it on, and I would like the purge to purge when I want it to. Thanks to anyone who helps!
Re: How to wire purge and bottle heater?
Bottle Heater:
85 -- ground
86 -- +12V from rocker switch
30 -- Battery +
87 -- to bottle heater
87a -- N/A
Purge:
85 -- ground
86 -- +12V from purge button
30 -- battery +
87 -- to purge solenoid
87a -- N/A
You don't really need a relay for a purge, but it's up to you. Whether or not you can use either of these when the key is off depends on if you wire the switches for them to a 12V constant source or a switched 12V source.

Re: How to wire purge and bottle heater?
So if I don't use a relay for the purge, all I have to do is hook 1 wire to a 12v constant or switch source, and put the other to a ground?
How would I wire the purge without a relay?

Re: How to wire purge and bottle heater?
I would wire the +12 volt side of the purge solenoid to the nitrous arming switch and wire the negative side of the purge solenoid through a dedicated switch grounding it. JMO....

Well right now I have the purge sharing a common ground on the intake manifold. All that is left is the 2 wires on the button for the purge, and the 1 wire off the purge solenoid.
Re: How to wire purge and bottle heater?
In which case you would wire the button with +12 volts coming and going. I would like to have a good 20 amp button for that although a purge solenoid should be relatively low in amperage draw it is good to give yourself some room. Using the button to ground allows you to use almost any duty switch and that is why I suggested wiring it that way.
Wiring the switch with power will require you to run only one wire through the firewall although you could just find a power source under the hood if you were to switch the solenoid through ground. In which case you can still have just one wire through the fw.
You have some options and that's why it can be hard to diagnose problems.

So could I just tap the purge into the ACC for the arming switch, which is drawn by the cigarette lighter *not sure if I'll blow a fuse in that case*. Is there any possible way you could make a quick wiring diagram for that? I'm better with visuals
.

.As for drawing a diagram, I'm no good with that as it takes a little knowledge of the electrical symbols and I'm not armed with the possession or knowledge of how to work a drawing program. I could draw by hand and scan it to a gif file but I couldn't do it quickly. I would be happy to continue explaining what I understand and maybe we can get you what you want that way.
