How will my A4 handle a shot?

Well I have been debating H/C packages and Nitrous Dry/Wet packages. How would a stock 4L60E hold up to some Nitrous Express wet shots? How much could I spray before the tranny goes, I was thinking of starting out conservative 75 then trying up to 150. Also how can I keep from spraying between shifts, just a window switch? The N2O is better pricewise than the H/C and I'll also save on gasoline bills each week. I also heard that Dry is easier on drivetrain than wet. My biggest worry is the A4. What do you guys think?

I'm runing 150, i had burned 3 times my transmission 4l60e, 2 times with nitrous, what i recomend is put a big radiator for transmission fluid and only run one time, let it cool a good time and you'r ready for the next run. if your transmissin it's old you are going to burn it, rebuild it whit good components, like big alto red, kevlar, or rybestos clutches, modify your valve box.
also a window switch it's very helpfull avoiding backfires and over rev, over rev also damage the transmission.
one thig for sure, you are going to love 150 shoot
good luck
ooooooooo and go wet!

Re: How will my A4 handle a shot?

I must be lucky then, cause I'm on my second motor, and rear end (115,xxx). Been on the bottle for about 4 years now and tranny is still strong on a stock stall as well. I just service it more often like once a year ( I dont drive it that much now)

Now I have a buddy that goes threw many tranny rebuilts very often even when he's not on the bottle. So it can be up in the air on how much your tranny will take the beating.

no one knows.........that's the fun

I do know the quicker you hit it off the line the faster the tranny will go out.

Re: How will my A4 handle a shot?

how do you figure?

do what everest says and you should do fine

i am on my second tranny, about to go rebuilt it again, but its under warranty so the shop picks up the tab on this one. My 2nd gear is slipping on a 75 wet, but then again i have 2.73 gears so i am in second for quite a while and its my most important gear at the moment (3.42's are in the works as soon as my 6 speed buddy gets his 4.10's) hehe

I am getting closer to juicing the 350. Other than a window switch what else would help the A4? Is there a gentle way to ease the hit? Thanks fellas.

Nitrous controller.
I plan on using the Jacobs Nitrous Mastermind to tame my direct port fogger setup.
I have a local built tranny that has been great with 20k on it but the guy who built it says don,t spray it off the line and it should be fine.

Re: How will my A4 handle a shot?

Yeah progressive controller might help but they are pricey.Window switch is supposed to help too. Some guys seem to make lots and lots of runs and some don't.
I would think sooner or later a rebuild would be in the cards. You could also likely help the tranny by running smaller shots like a 75 but being like most guys sure you will have the bigger jets in there first time someone beats you in a race especially if its close and you just sort of say well with another 50 hp..

Actually to do nitrous right it adds up pretty quick, purge, bottle heater, bottle opener maybe, window switch..this and that and close in on a grand or over pretty quickly and then the price of refills..not that cheap! and the stuff is addictive!!

Heads like LE for 1000 to 1300 or whatever they are now and a cam for like 250 US like my 305 or a 306 and not really that much more and the power is always there. But of course the best is heads/cam /headers and nitrous.!!

Nitrous is a bit easier to do first no engine disassembly. So maybe spray and if you hurt the motor than perfect time when its out to do heads, cam and forged pistons or stroker kit.

I should have some feedback maybe in a few months since just got a zex wet kit and have an a4 96z28 vert.I have 3.42 gears and 2800 vig right now.See how the trans takes it.I plan on window switch for sure.

Re: How will my A4 handle a shot?

With a 4l60e is a hit and miss thing, ive ran a 150 dry though my car for 3 years going tot he track all the time launching on slicks and it has held up. I sprayed in between shifts and everything. COnsidering right after each nitrous pass you smelt clutches burning, and it would shift real strange right after a nitrous pass it eventually worked itself out and shifted normal on the way home thank god. Mine held up great for what i put it though and i sold it to someone doing an LS1 swap into a 3rdgen and its been good for him as a daily driver with a stock LS1 to this day. Other people shooting on 4l60es had worst luck. I did a th400 swap becaus i wanted to get money for my 4l60e so sold it before it broke, lol. I know people who have put $5000 into a 4l60e and they still broke on 11 second cars. Chances are your trans will be fine behind a stock ls1 with a 150 shot, your 10 bolt is what you have you have to worry about more so then the transmission.

If you want to play you got to pay!

Re: How will my A4 handle a shot?

I ran a 150 wet shot one my stock motor all of last season, ran 6 bottles through it. Use the window switch the spray between your shifts, you'll save the tranny. As for some one telling you thata dry shot is safer then a wet shot spraying a dry shot your taking the chance of locking up your stock injectors, the wet shot adds more fuel to the intake to help with the extra HP

Your A4 will handle the 150 shot, but it depends on how well it was built and beat on in the past, my advise is to use the window switch for sure.
