How much nitrous w/383 can i run
How much nitrous w/383 can i run
Im currently building a 383 all forged with 11.8 to 1 compression. Also LE3 head and cam package. And the rest of my mods are comp cam pro mag rollers 1.6, comp cam pushrods, comp cam R lifters, delphi 42lb injectors, holly fuel pump, pacesetter LTs, meizere electric water pump, and i think thats it.
How much of a shot of nitrous could i run safely? I was also planning on going with the wet nitrous kit.

Keep in mind that as a general rule of thumb, you can add another 50% with nitrous. In other words, if your engine is making 500hp (at the flywheel), without the juice, then you can add another 250hp with it.
Now, 500 + 250 = 750.
So, if your engine parts are rated for 750hp, and you have done the proper block prep, then you should have no trouble. Keep in mind that if you want to make "X" amount of total horsepower while on the bottle, then you have to build the engine as if it were making that much horsepower all the time.
What this means is; your question is better asked of YOU. What parts did you buy? What block prep did you do? How much HP can your engine make before it breaks? If you answer those questions, then you'll know how much you can spray.

Re: How much nitrous w/383 can i run
Good post LameRandomName.
When I had my motor built the first thing I told them was that this engine is going to get at least a 200 shot on it.
This allows them to select the proper parts and ring gaps to accommodate your needs.
If your ring ends touch....your gonna need a trailer to make it home.
If your building the engine I would just call up your ring manufacture and see what they say about the ring gap required for the shot that you would like to use but as mentioned above all parts must be built to handle the HP that is created by nitrous.

Actually,
This is one of those post that need more detail.
What pistons?
What rings?
What Rods?
What Crank?
Does the block have splayed caps?
All these things will also go into play.
