How much do you think I should charge to do this nitrous install
Well, a guy in my car club I talk to some wants me to install a nitrous kit he just got.
New NX Kit w/ the GEN-X-II upgrade, N2O gauge, and window switch. I've done all this before of course, and know what I'm doing. Going on a heads/cam 97Z.
I've discussed how he wants it done, some of his install options. I'm gonna do it a little different than mine on how everything is mounted, but basically the same kit.
15lb bottle in the spare tire well, nitrous line ran inside the car on the pass side, solenoids all mounted in the passenger side of engine compartment. N2O gauge in the A-pillar, switches in the center console (either ash tray or the little front storage compartment).
Purge is going through the ram-air vent in his Ultra-Z hood....that's pretty much what it will be all about. Nothing really out of the ordinary.
But I really don't know what I should charge. He knows there will be some misc stuff he will have to pick up; wire loom, wire, connectors, perhaps some new switches, a few misc. fittings depending on how I do things, etc. I'm just looking for an idea on labor. What would be a FAIR price?? I don't want to rip him off nor myself. It's not just going to be thrown together, and it will most likely look better than mine (I'll get around to re-doing mine some time to make it a little more to my liking....not that it looks like *** or anything).
Just looking for a general number to give him.

The amount that is fair to him and you depends on friendship and his funds...
I got a fairly great quote of $500 to do heads/cam install on my car from a shop where a friend works but guess what, it's too much for my pocket book....

Come on.....what would you expect to pay to have it done??? I'm not a shop, so I'm not expecting to charge what a shop would to do this. Basically, just a fair, general price. I've had people pay me what I would consider too much to do work (they insisted), such as $100 to do a Spohn TA install and swap tranny mounts....but he was pleased with the work, and insisted on paying that.
I just want to give him a fair price and not rip myself off. Anyone had any shops quote them for this kind of install??

OK if I was going to do this, I figure about 8 to 10 hours work. Figure your time is worth around $25 to $35 an hour (about 1/2 shop rate). So $200 to $350 should be about 1/2 of what a shop would charge. The difference is if he has any issues with the install are you fixing them for free? Etc, Etc.
My 2 cents.
(Be happy that your job wasn't pro car audio design/install work before, every time someone gets a stereo I get volunteered to install. Unfortunately at 300lbs I don't fit in many other vehicles besides my Impy and my Suburban.... )

I would bid a job like that at about $300 plus parts. Your going to have some time in it for clean professional workmanship. You have to stand behind your work. Way behind in the case of N2O
Or you could do a slam, bang for $100, depends on how clean of job he wants.

I have some friends that know a good deal about working on cars, installing nitrous, body work, ect.... They dont charge me anything, and this was helping me instale a nitrous kit, gears and im about to order a set of hooker l/t's.. If it were a friend or a member of my club, then i wouldnt charge th em anything.... Unless it was something mogor like a cam or head installe.. And i dont know about wet kits, but i have helped installe enough dry kits on mustangs and fbodies that its gottne to be pretty simple. But i knwo there is alot more to wet kits, so i wouldnt mess with one of those.

I installed a 500hp kit on a guys 1969 rs/ss, two tanks,an fittings, braided lines,
wired in nos controller and retard box etc, etc. i charged 300.00 for that. took about 15 hours and went to track to help dial it in. (althought he did pay the entry fee for my car also) knocked almost 2 sec.
off his e.t. he was happy as hell. now hes sending me more work. goes to show, i charged him alot less than a shop and i'm still getting work from him.
hope this helps

Depends on how good of friends you are. A friend of mine has at least 500 hours into my car along with all my work and hasn't charged a dime, although it isn't just him working in it, it is the both of use.. Stupid hours add up fast after taking the engine out a few times. I would have to say $250-350 would be a good price if you install it very nicley.
I was'nt going to get into this but hears my.02. for a good friend i would'nt charge a thing, because a good friend would at leats offer you what he can aford.A friend everything is $100.If i just know someone i know for that job with what you discribed $200. MY .02
I'd go with $200 as well.
I ran the n2o line and connected the noids myself, and had someone do the wiring and bottle mounting, for $130. He thought I overpaid a bit too.
So, since you're doing what I did myself in addition to the rest, I'd say around $200 would be fair.

Supply some pizza and drinks, and I'll help you do that cam install. Hell, there is more room under the hood of your impy than my Z, should be pretty easy.

Is this far from you?
I'd say 200 plus beer and food as well, I did mine in about 8 hours and its nice I even junkyarded a old fuse box and mounted it under the hood to box in the solenoids, and then covered the wires in that black tubing to make it look factory, and no one can tell, Of course the guys I race aren't the brightest and some are missing a few teeth here and there
