High Mileage LT1's Spraying NOS?
High Mileage LT1's Spraying NOS?
Hello Everybody,
I have a '94 Impala and I want to get an idea of how many people are running NOS on high mileage LT1's, if any. I know only of a hand full of people who are spraying like my friend with about 140,000 miles. He has the a stock set-up without a window switch, MSD box, bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors, etc. For those who are spraying a high mileage LT1 or just any car what precautions are you taking to keep your car from detontion? I have only bolt-ons on my car and have been thinking seriously about spraying but don't know if the car can actually handle the power. I know if my piston rings are bad I can do some serious damage to the engine, well she gets a oil treatment every 3,000 miles of pure synthetic oil. What should I do?
Thanks,
Mag

If your car runs good now Juiceing it shouldnt hurt anything as long as you dont get any detonation!A 255lph fuel pump would be nice and also a msd 6al or simular to stop spark instead of fuel if you hit the revlimiter. Colder plugs would help too. I put a 150(NX KIT) on my buddys 95 TA with a 104k It has had 3 tanks ran threw it,With no problems at all. has hit the revlimiter a few times (A4)His car went 11.96 with just a cai LT headder and a 3.73 gear.
any ? just IM me at Funina91SS Aol im.

Yeah, that's basically, what GM High-Tech's article said to do when they installed a TNT set-up on a LS1 Camaro. My friend's car has also hit the rev limiter once, he has the basic set-up without any of the safety gadgets to protect his engine from detonation. Well, I know now of two people spraying with alot of miles on their engines. I don't plan on spraying no more than a 100 shot even when I take all the pre-cautions needed to be safe. I'm first going to install my rocker arms/springs and then maybe NOS
.
Thanks,
Mag

Gotta love the spray!!
Joe.
How are you going to prevent from hitting the rev limiter, putting in a window switch? Any other pre-cautions when using NOS other than bigger/better fuel pump, MSD, window switch, colder plugs, I don't know what else?

Unfortunately, we're not using a window switch, but it would definately be a good investment and would aslo take care of hitting the rev limiter, maybe next spring I'll have one! Also, a window switch would prevent having to spray through shifts in an A4 like me
I highly recommend using a fuel pressure safety switch too(shuts off the juice should fuel pressure drop too low). Just do a search and you'll find a bunch of great info that can better explain things.
Joe.

youd be suprised how well these engines take to juice. my 96 A4 complete with 2.73s had 83k miles on it when i bought it 7 months ago. it has 95k now i ive had the gas on it for the last 3 weeks or so. my car is basically bone stock. stock pump, injectors, ignition, etc. not even a regulator. after seeing and talking with the local guys ive met that have had LT1s, i feel lot more confident. i met a guy that had a 94 A4 car that went 11.7s with a gear, stall, and 150 WET shot. thats it. no intake, no exhaust, nothing. the only upgrade to the fuel system was a regulator. stock injectors, pump. he ran that set-up for 40k miles with NO problems whatsoever.
ill be upping my shot to 150 as soon as i have a reg.(100 right now). but thats prolly the only thing ill do to the fuel system. its really not nessesary. sure, its an extra safty net, but its not a nessecity(sp).
the most important thing i would stress, is to get a wet kit. especially if your a saftey freak.

Why a wet kit, just because fuel and NOS are both being sprayed at the same time. On that GH High-Tech article they said a wet kit was harder to install and it would require more maintenance on the owners part. What is the difference in set-up with the wet kit, I know the dry kit sprays from the TB into the intake, how does the wet kit work that makes it much safer or better?
Oh, thanks gentlemen for the responses.

a wet kit has a extra noid to hookup and you get the fuel from the port in the back of the intake. I like wet kits because they dont have to count on the inj. for fuel plus you can richen or lean to fine tune it at the jet's as far as being harder to hookup technicaly yes you have to wire up one more noid if you can hook up one two will be no problem.
I have a NX wet kit, and have put two 15# bottles through it. Mostly 100 shot, but I tried a 150 shot a few times... aside from having no traction until 3rd gear, the O2 sensor values also fluctuated too much, telling me my fuel pump wasn't up to the task. 109K miles, and no probs yet.

Check out this article pretty interesting stuff.
I'm very pleased by how many high mileage LT1's are spraying and not having any problems, this makes my decision alot easier to make. Now, I just have to find a good price on a system and all the other hardware.
Thanks again for your responses, makes me want to get a Trans Am.
