FPSS how reliable are they?

I am about to put a nx kit on my z. And I am trying to inform myself as mush as possible. How reliable is a fpss. Does it work as well as it should. Has anyone had one not work and caused problems?

I really want a fuel pressure gauge in the car but those are very expensive so would a fpss be as good of an investment.

Tia,
Jose

AFAIK, they're reliable, but not too easy to set up the fuel pressure correctly.

I was told a long time ago by a very repatble shop that the fpss really doesnt do all everything its hyped up to be...

Something along those lines, but they said it was really not needed. But hell, for the price, i'm not taking aby chances, i'll put it on

I'd be real curious as to what this reputable shop said was wrong with the "hype" about a fpss, and why one wouldn't be needed. As far as I can tell, I'd cross them off my "reputable shop" list based on that comment....

Did they give a reason as to why? I've seen the same type hobbs switch on offshore industrial motors.

And mine's worked just fine for me. I dont have my nitrous activation ran through it, but I do have a dummy light on the dash ran through it, so I dont have to monitor a gauge (or buy a high dollar elec gauge and pressure transducer). The dash light goes off if the fuel pressure drops below 40psi. It works very well for me - my nitrous fuel pump recently went down, and I wouldnt have had a clue if the dash light had not indicated that I was dropping pressure when I tried a short purge into the engine. So the fpss probably saved my engine. Not that a gauge wouldnt have shown me the same thing, but my point is that the fpss did work and could have shut off the nitrous just as well as it did the light, if I had it wired that way.

If people are having problems with their fpss's, I'd like to hear about them. I imagine there are a few failures like with any mech and elec part, but I beleive for the most part, they work well...

Actually, with an adjustable fp regulator, a small mech gauge, a hot wire, and a test light, it is really easy to set the pressure.

Turn your fp down to 38 or so, then adjust the fpss to where the test light just goes off. Return your fp to normal (42-45?) That's it.

Without an adjustable fp regulator, you can probably set the fpss on a workbench with an air compressor using regulated air, a pressure gauge, and a test light (in the same manner as above).
