First N20 shot , NOS timer needed?

I just finished my nitrous install with the 100 shot approx, using it in 1 st gear is way too much... just fries the tires in no time from rolling at about 30 mph , 2 nd gear at 3000 rpm puts me right back in the seat, would one of the timers from NOS work well for regulating the N20 from 1 st gear on, this timer allows you to adjust from 0 to 100 percent flow between 0 and 10 seconds. It sounds like it would work perfectly for my A4 , the top end of 1 st gear could use some N20 , and second would work best at about 50 % it seems and 100 % from there on. Well thats what i'm hoping i can do with it( the timer from NOS) anyways, If anybody knows could you please let me know,Thanks
