Post Dual Stage NOS, How do I...

I've got a dual stage shot of NOS that I'm going to install on my stroker. My car is a 6-speed, and I want to spray the second stage after I'm in 2nd gear. What options do I have so I can do this. My first stage will run off of the WOT switch, but I'm stumped on the 2nd. I don't want to have a NOS button in the car that I have to push, and from what I've seen on a delay box, it will reset everytime I let off of the throttle to shift. What are those of you who have dual stage setups doing?

Cool

I'll move this over to the Nitrous forum. If, after a couple days, you don't get the responses you need, repost here indicating you already tried in the Nitrous forum. Thanks!

Most people are using a button on the shift **** or an rpm activated switch (ran through a wot switch) for the second stage. Maybe you could find a switch that was speed activated, and use it with a second WOT switch. Figure out what mph you're at when you hit second, and set the switch just a bit higher. I'm not aware of anyone who would sell such a switch, but it seems like someone would make it.

I just had a crazy thought. What if you put another micro switch ( ran through your safety equip. throttle switch, window switch etc.) in your console? So when you pull the shifter into second gear it would trigger the second stage.
Sure seems to me that this could be done.

Oh! wait a minute. What about third gear etc? Hmmm? It's something to think about anyway. I gotta go to bed.

The Microswitch on the shifter will work, but put it on first gear, and wire it as a disable switch, that way you will not hit the 2nd stage until the switch is released.

The way most people do it is with a Timer (Digi-Set).
It can be set by the tenthes of a second.

I wanted to do the timer setup, but won't it re-set everytime I shift if I let off of the throttle? I thought it was run off of the microswitch you mount on the TB. I don't power shift the car, and I want the second stage to spray when I'm in second gear. I think mounting a second switch on the shifter like 97FormulaWS-6 said. I've just got to figure out how to mount it and hook it up.

Get one of the Microswitches with the long metal trigger piece on it. I'd personally make a aluminum piece the was bent up to put the switch on the right spot and mounted to one of the shifter mounting bolts. Bend a tab down to keep the bracket from moving and your'r golden. Wire it into a relay so that when the switch is closed you are energizing the relay, and when the switch the relay is open... you will need a 5-plug relay for this.... There will be a connection made from the source (12V+) to one of 2 other connections... one when the relay is energized and one when it isn't. Hook the trigger wire(the one that goes to the WOT/FPSS/etc) to the one that connects when the relay isn't energized.....

That was a long description but let me know if you need a little better description on it.

OK.
If you wire a switch to come on when you are in 2nd, it will switch off when you go to the next gear anyway.
YOU JUST WANT TO SPRAY IN 2ND? No other gears?

Most timers are triggered off a transbrake or line-lock switch.

You're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

strokedTA -

Keep in mind that my car is a 6-Speed. I want the car to launch with the first stage, and then when I shift to second, I want BOTH stages spraying for the remainder of the run. I'd like to do this with out using a second hand-held button.

97FormulaWS-6 -

You might have to send me some kind of diagram to show exactly how to hook this up. I understand the concepts, but hooking it up may be interesting. I want the second stage to be off ONLY in first gear. So when I shift into second-third-fourth, both stages are running off of the WOT microswitch. Thanks for the help.

97FormulaWS-6 has a great idea that will work exactly as you've asked for, but keep in mind that you also need to loop the activation through a WOT switch, so it cuts the juice of during your shifts and at part throttle.

Muahahha! DOn't you know Dave! That NEVER works!

What Dave is trying to say is it can/could/should be wired so that once the first system is engaged, after x.x seconds of delay the 2nd system will be engaged. FORGET the gears. This is TIME delay, not based on gear.

If you insist on only doing it in 2nd gear on up, then as stated eariler the best route would be a switch on 1st gear, that is wired through a relay to turn the system on only when its not in 1st gear. Make sense?

Good luck young grasshoper.... Remember water always takes the simplest path and you should too!

I'm all for the relay setup, but I'm not sure how to wire it up. I would do the timer, but since I have a 6-speed car, won't the timer reset everytime I shift? I thought it was run off of a WOT switch. Is it?
