Dual Stage

So ive been thinking about this. Im not sure how much more power my engine can handle. Im thinking im pushing about 425 rwhp through my stock bottom end. Ive heard that LT1s can handle about 150 shot rather easily.

Would it be a better idea to dual stage with a small 50 shot around 3500 and then a larger 100 shot around 5k to keep the TQ down? Ive got a 6 speed and i shift out at 6850.

Would the bottom end hold up to that kinda abuse, or would it be safer to stick with a 100-150 single stage shot with a window switch of 4-6500 ?

THX guys,
Stu

Re: Dual Stage

THe LT1 can hold 150 shots but really its a matter of time.. some of my friends have had no problem with 150 shots while others have snapped rods or blown pistons.

Its much safer to run a dual stage with 2 points of activations. A 150 shot can have a huge torque hit. My friend Dom had a heads/cam LT1 pulling 10 degrees of timing.. 150 shot gave him an additional 125rwhp and 270rw ft lbs of torque. He had 613 ft lbs of torque to the ground. His engine took many 100 shots but blew after a few bottles on the 150shot. single stage. The torque gain off a 100 shot was only 170ft lbs and the hp was 90 or so. Forget the exact number...

I would not spray a stock bottom ends heads/cam car and expect it to live very long.. The other friends who sprayed hit 100-150 shots without heads or cam. There cars didnt blow.
The initial torque hit is hardest on the engine.. also the higher rpms and power held at those rpms..
But to my understanding... torque is a direct representative of cylinder pressure. So u can watch the dyno to the point where your 1st hit drops down fairly low and then spray it with the 2nd hit. Nitrous guru guy here was explaining something to the effect that a your engine can handle larger shots at higher rpms (to an extent).. Thats why never spray below X amount.. like under 3000. So u can spray more safely at 4800rpms then 3000 rpms..

ok enough of my rambling.. but 425 + nitrous your asking for a blown engine.. That far exceeds the strength of the internals.. Only know 1 friend who sprays a 225 shot on a Heads/Cam LS1 and its lasted years. No one else has come close. Mainly because he runs a dual shot.. 100 and 125. Dry and wet
