DIY hidden bottle bracket
DIY hidden bottle bracket
Received an email from someone asking for a drawing of the bracket I made to fit the spare tire well. So here it is.

Remember the measurements may vary, but I think it gives a very good idea of how things look. I used flat aluminum stock and aluminum rivets which seem to be strong enough for the 10# bottle. I made the 90* bend on the far side by clamping an inch in a bench vise, heating it with a blowtorch, and pulling down until I was satisfied. The left side is screwed into the 'hump' where the jack normally sits. It all makes for easy removal, and all the points pivot slightly to allow for shifting of the body.
Enjoy!

Re: DIY hidden bottle bracket
dave,
I was searching brackets and found this old thread! thanks a million for goin through all that making the pdf drawing. that sure makes it simple. also, bolts/nuts would be easier instead of rivets for most people and you dont have to worry about those comeing loose later either like you do with a alum. rivet.
good stuff
chris

Re: DIY hidden bottle bracket
guess you can blame that on me. lol
got a couple pics, but for some reason I cant get into my own photo page to look much less add them into. something about my browser not allowing cookies. I hate computers sometimes.

Re: DIY hidden bottle bracket
I just got done building one of my own. Mounts on the spare tire holder and bolts down using the spare tire hold-down. I wanted one that made the bottle sit low in the car so I designed it and built it from the ground up. I will get a couple pics when i go home this weekend maybe.

finally got onto my photo page. added some pics from the install. think I got some great pics of the bracket, and how simple it is. also, note that there is plenty of room under that to mount the battery. but, not enough room to mount a sealed box as NHRA rules call for.

Re: DIY hidden bottle bracket
Mine is way different, mine is way overkill too
3/16" steel version
But then again mine is for dynotunes billet bottle bracket. I'm going to go back and make a couple different thicknesses to see what gives good stiffness, but not a ton of weight.
