Direct Port Fogger? Anybody?

Seems that everyone is going for the single injector or MAF unit before the TB. How come nobody goes direct port? Seems like it would be the best way to get even N2O.

...assuming that you have a forged piston bottom end.

b/c its not good unless you are running a big shot, cause you have to split up the power to each cylinder. IE. if you wanted to run a 50 shot on a direct port. 50/8 = 6.25 hp for each cylinder. that is one tiny jet. just not practical cause the jets would clog easy, etc.

now a 500 shot on the other hand....

I see... so, if I wanted to run a 200 hp direct port on a forged 383 bottom end, then I would have to install 25 hp jets per nozzle.

the BIGGEST reason most people dont run a direct port is COST. PAlso the single nozzle is "simpler" to tune for beginners. Plus the fact a guy can get into a single fogger or MAF kit for well under $700,whereas a Direct port is $1k plus you have to either plumb it,or send the intake out and have it plumbed.

IMO a DP is about the BEST way to go for almost any size shot You can tune each cylinder by itself.
If you have a forged 383,go for the direct port, you wont regret it.
"splitting the power" is a good thing,at least you know every cylinder is getting the SAME amount, whereas a single fogger or the MAF plate have a better chance at leaning out 1 cylinder.

Yep, the 383 is on its way. I'm still twisted on the blower idea, but N2O is less expensive (for the kit, not damages). The intake manifold will be off and I can bend tubes. I was thinking of an under the manifold type cheater direct port system.... that make jet swaps a bit difficult.

i am planning on doing the DP under manifold route too. the lt1 intake is just way too freakin cramped for an outter intake DP. i dont care about jet changes. i have my intake and i plan on starting the cutting tomorrow or the next day. i plan on buying NOS 02620. let me warn you, there is hella cutting and welding in this process (under manifold). we will see how it goes. i have never messed with n20 at all, but i am giving it a shot anyways. i cant wait.

You've got to take pics!!! Let's get them up on the web! My concern, suppose that the direct port jets are good but the fuel or N2O needs to be rejetted for the proper calibration to your set up. Does that mean you need to pull the intake manifold off until you get it "dialed in"?

Well, there is a new NX kit that is currently set for Civics but can be adapted to the V8 easily. It plugs under the current injectors... offers direct port function and can be on top. I'd love to go under but the jetting issue has me concerned. Also, I noticed his hookups for the N2O and fuel.. they are on the top. Pretty tough to get to on the back by the bulkhead.

yea but that kit is really expensive and for the lt1 you have to cut the fuel rails because they are connected. those two things made me decide against it.

What the hell go ahead and drop the doe for the direct port! Its only money and you can't take it with ya when your dead. Ask your self do I want to make some power or lots of power so that I can beat that 422ci LS1 that's been pulling me on the high end at the track last year!

Spend the cash and go direct port to make big power. Heck I only cried once or twice after looking at my check book. LOL I had my intake done and its a work of art!

Speaking of Direct Port, what is the overall opinions of the "NOS"zle by Holley and the new NX direct port nozzles that fit under the injectors?

i read a write up on them from some reputable car mag. they seemed really good, BUT like i said for the LT1, the fuel rail will have to be adapted (cut and custom line work done) if you wanna run the Noszles.
