Detonation or missing????
Detonation or missing????
Im not sure if i am getting detonation or if its missing. I started off with the tr6s i sprayed on them maybe 4 or 5 times and used them for about 2months. After that everytime i would spray it would kinda feel like im hitting the rev limiter, took the plugs out they had a muddy redish color to them. So i swapped them out for the autolite 104s(2steps colder i think). As soon as i put them in i sprayed it and they worked great. Been driving my car with with not problems for about 2 or 3 months and sprayed it again last night. In first gear as soon as i spray it it again feels like im hitting the rev limiter. If i spray in second it all sounds okay. Does anybody know whats going on? Do i need to maybe change my plugs again? The temp here in lousiana last night was around 30degrees as compared to 90 something when i last sprayed it. Would the colder temps have anything to do with this?? Im using an NX kit, no ignition box, 94octane fuel, knock sensor disabled. My timing is around 38 to 40 degrees at WOT with the spray. I forgot to check with the spray if that would help ill do it today.
Re: Detonation or missing????
Yes this is a wet kit. Ya i have a purged but ummmm its not all hooked up yet. No bottle heater but i heated the bottle up to 1000psi. Not sure how much the pressure drops when i spray. The bottle was around half full when this happened
Re: Detonation or missing????
You likely have a spark deficiency.
With new plugs, they fire easier & after a few miles the edges are not as sharp, taking more power to fire.
I run into this often with nitrous & blower motors. Try a smaller gap... like .035 & see if it helps. If so you need more spark. If you have good cap, rotor & wires, you likely need an ignition box.
Good luck.

Re: Detonation or missing????
Well i have my autolite104s gapped at .035. My optispark is a few months old but then again that doesnt mean much. My coil is also a few months old, but is just a stock replacement from autozone. Plug wires are taylor cut to fit and have about 15 to 20k and from the outside appear to be in good shape. I do not have an ignition box, i guess maybe i should save up and invest in one. Would anyone happen to know what a rusty red lookn spark plug would mean? Thats what my NGK TR6's looked like after about 3 to 4k of driving and about 5 good sprays.
Re: Detonation or missing????
I'm not sure what the rusty red color means, but chances are you need an ignition box. I would recommend the Mallory 685. It's about $230 and has a built in window switch, two step, and retard functions. That's waht I'm running and it works flawlessly. You can look at my Cardomain page in sig. and see where I have everything mounted.
Re: Detonation or missing????
Well i already have a window switch, so i guess i wouldnt need to buy the Mallory 685. After being told i wouldnt need an ignition box i dropped my plan to buy the 685 and went ahead and got a window switch. I guess i could sell my window switch since its never been used and then get the 685. It does have great features and its smaller then the MSD boxes. Thanks for the advice everyone.
Re: Detonation or missing????
I took one of my plugs into our local speed shop bc I pulled one of mine and was curious as to why it was a brick red kinda color. He actually told me that it was very normal and that is pretty much what it should look like. So i think your plugs are fine.
