just eyeing up parts for when i install a wet kit on my T/A. i plan on running a 100 shot with colder plugs and ive been thinking it would be good to get a retard box, but im not too sure, ive heard both ways are better. if i do decide to pull some timing, is there a fairly cheap box that will do what i need it to, instead of like the MSD digital 6 or somethign for 300+. id rather keep it cheap since idc about the ignition box that much.

 

If you don't want to go for the price of the MSD Digital 6 ,You could go with the regular plain MSD retard box MSD 8982 it's around $140ish(I used one in the past and it was ok).........or (what I would do) the Mallory MAA 685 full ignition box with built in revlimiter, window switch, and single stage retard, it's around $239.00.........this is money we'll spent when running any nitrous kit.......You can try www.summitracing.com to read about both if you want... they also have pretty good prices on them.....Joe

 

hmmmm. i saw the mallory but didnt notice it was a window switch too. i was planning on getting a BMN or w/e the window switch is with the first gear lockout. but hell if the mallory works well and has all those features that seems like the hot setup.

so you can run normal use on that thing, then say retard the timing 4* manually, run with the nitrous, then set it back to normal, all while using the window switch and rev limiter as well? honesyl, that stuff really confuses me sometimes although maybe just cause ive never used anythign so hightech before.hehe

 

I ordered the mallory on ebay, $209 shipped, brand new. It has a window switch built into it, it pulls timing, + its a retard box too. Once you figure in the cost for a window switch then something to pull timing, it comes out to close to the price of the mallory unit.

Yea , it does everything all at once..Much Better "hotter" ignition, window switch, spark cutting rev-limiter (not fuel cutting) which is a big no-no if you were to hit it on nitrous, and the timing retard.......I run the MSD but many of the guys I know run the mallory and it works good also... Yea, just hook the ignition boxes retard wire to your nitrous arming switch, so it will pull your dialed in amount of timing retard right before your ready to spray.....simple as can be

 

awesome. i wont be doing this until i have a hotcam and a wet setup. which hopefully is around next spring, so i got lots time. but awesome, sounds like a nice deal. you guys think a hotcam and 100 shot would spin 315 Nittos at the top of 1st gear? i would of coarse have the window switch and not be sprayin until i was outa the hole a little bit, but idk if it would be better to wait until 2nd gear, which is why i was consider the 1st gear lockout window switch.

 

The 1st gear BNM lockout feature isn't that good, if you have the 1st gear lockout engaged, and you spray say from a 3rd gear roll, it wont spray 3rd gear at all, it will start in the next gear.

 

hmmmm. interesting. so its like for off the line. well anyways, forget BNM then. i wont be running N2O on the street really at all anyways, just to test it before i go to the track. think spraying 1st at the track is not such a good idea with DR's or will they hook well, or will the rear end give up instnatly with over 400 hp. i wont be launching incredibly hard, just looking for some ideas.

Mallory 685, I just bought one from a member on the board here and am going to hook it up this weekend.

 

in my opinion you do not need any retard for a 100 shot I always start my retard at 175hp plus

 

i would rather be safe than sorry.

 

ive heard both. 100 shot is fine with stock timing, or take 2* for every 50hp shot. either way, it will be safer and probably higher gains from retarding it with the 100 shot. i really want to get everything buttoned up on the car so i can get to my cam and the N2O setup. this stuff is so neat, but its all money thats holding me back.lol. im really excited tho, hopefully thigns go as planned.

 

the mallory Vl maa-685 ignition box you guys were talking about will every thing hook up on an 01 z28 or is there something else i need with it?i also have a 100 shot dry kit,i realy dont know much about nitrous at all but ive already hooked the nitrous kit up ive sprayed it once just to see if it worked.But like every one keeps saying its better to be safe than sorry.

 

I have a acell 200 ignition box, if I go with the 685 that will replace the accel box or will I use both? going with a NX kit 150 shot.
