Bottle Warmer is given me problems. Any one experience with these?
I finially got around to get a bottle warmer. We installed it as instructions said. i got a friend to do it who knows what he is doing. It comes with all the wireing, a thermometer so it dosent get to hot, toggel switch, rely box an ****....
We installed everything BUT the thermometer. We grounded it, then turned it on, it fried the wire that goes to the toggle switch i mean it FRIED IT! Also shorted out the toggle switch. SO we got a new toggle switch which is what i think the problem may be. My buddy rigged it up w/o the relay box a different way (im not sure) but it seemed to work fine. But about 5 minutes down the road i noticed the toggle switch was HOT as hell! I shut it off and called my buddy, he said i probabily need a higher amp toggle switch, like a 30amp or something..... Any other ideas?

I think you said he did not use the relay, if not, use it. The relay keeps the switch from seeing too much current. A switch that can handle more amps may get you around the problem but using a relay is the right way to do it. I'm no expert, someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Gotta run the relay.
I have a NOS heater, and the thermostat wouldnt let it come on in the summer,so i bypassed it.
But you definately need to use a quality relay for the heater,a higher rated switch will only mask the problem for a while.

yeah, the bottle heater is supposed to be directly connected to the battery thru a relay, which means it draws plenty of current. Thats the purpose of using the relay, so the switch won't have to have that much current passing thru it. Make sure u are using the proper guage wire too, too small of a wire will impede current flow and will cause problems, like excessive heat. Good luck
oh yeah, do it right and get a relay, why do u want a 30 amp switch in your car that could possibly shock the **** out of you and possibly start a electrical fire, etc.

KAMAROL98-
this is for you and anyone who doesnt want to spend the extra $$$ for a 100+ dollar bottle warmer, and its safer and less complicated than what you're experiencing.
i have the "poor mans" bottle warmer. basically you get a DC to AC convertor and a heating pad, and boom! a warm blanket for your baby. i got my convertor at Target for 24.95 and my heating pad at Wally World for 9.95. the convertor is a SMALL one, not one of those big ones used to power TVs/computors/etc. its a little smaller than a ing. box, for those of you that know what that looks like, and fits right under your seat.
the convertor plugs into you cigg lighter and then you just plug in the heating pad and wrap it around your little treasure. and believe you me, IT WORKS! that little bugger gets warm.
cheap and effective. my two favorite words
