Best way to splice wires.

I am installing my intake with the direct port setup and was wondering whats the best way to splice the wires together?
I will be installing a Jacobs Nitrous mastermind as well and wanted to know if regular old butt splices would suffice or do I need to solder the joins?
Its my first time installing a Nitrous kit and I want to do it right the first time.
Thanks.

I used butt connectors...weathertight stuff would be a good idea.

Soldering is the best, but it'll also take the longest to do. You'll be fine with butt connectors, and like Cmr0z28 already said the heat shrinkable weather tight ones are real nice.

don't use crimps or butt connectors, if you want it 100% solder(Do you REALLY want to chase down electrical gremlins later, or have your fuel noid fail to open because of a bad connection?).
When your done soldering, heat shrink the wires. Thats the best way to do wiring.

Thats my $0.02

Solder is always best. Heat shrink tubing is a nice final touch -- helps keep it insulated from other wires and from moisture.

Butt connectors will do the job, if you must.

Solder and shrink wrap. Connectors at places where I would like to remove later, such as bottle heater and solnoids.

Not to beat a dead horse...but solder is the ONLY way to install critical systems. I've got all the RIGHT tools (i.e. professional grade) to do crimp terminals properly and we've still had to chase down faulty connections from time to time. A gauge or some nice to have gadget is one thing, but anything like a nitrous system should definitely be soldered.

Re: Best way to splice wires.

I like to do a bypass wrap on the wires. That is, I have the bare sections meet at the halfway mark and the end half of the left side wraps around the first half of the right side, and vice versa. Then I finish with solder and heat shrink tubing. If you do this, go to Radio Shack and ask for the solder that is for wiring and circuits. Do NOT use the plumbing store stuff. They have different purposes and different compositions.

Having said that, I have used Painless Wiring butt connectors with great success. They are high quality pieces with a built-on shrink wrap that has a sealant that flows out when you heat them. The key is to use a high quality crimper and either a heat gun or a propane torch on a low flow setting.

I would STRONGLY suggest that, should you choose to use butt connectors; that you ONLY use the ones from Painless Wiring. There may be other high quality brands out there but I don't know who they are and Painless... I trust.

They also have both Weatherpack and their own brand of quick-disconnect terminals.

Re: Best way to splice wires.

I used to use heat shrink pieces that are clear/blueish and have a ring of solder in them. You just stripped the wires, slipped it over one, twisted the wire ends together, and heated with a heat gun and it soldered and shrunk down in one step...pretty cool, but haven't seen them in any stores for years. I think I still have a small supple of them in the garage, but don't want to use them up...not exactly sure why though, it's not like there's some special project I need them for...LOL!

Excellent advice. Thanks guys.
I will solder where I can but I think I will also be using some quick disconnects in certain areas as well.
