Anyone ever done this?

Been thinking about a nitrous setup on my LT1.

Also been thinking about how I don't exactly feel comfortable with just letting the flow work itself out in the plenum.

I'm kind of a control freak and I don't like the idea of unequal amounts of nitrous going down each port.

So I was thinking that maybe a direct injection setup into the top of the plenum might be nice.

One injector centered above the rearmost 4 ports and another one above the front 4.
Soft plume injectors might work nice.

Or maybe machine the manifold to accept a spray bar or two.

I was thinking that a dry system that relies on bigger injectors and longer pulses to add more fuel while spraying would be best.

Looking for some thoughts on this notion.

im not sure how the 2 nozzles in the top would work, the velocity of the incoming air would blow/force the dpray from the front nozzle the to rear of the intake. The spray bars are an interesting idea.

The only way i can recommend a dry kit is if you have DFI/Speed Pro/Motec etc. You need to be able to precisely control the injector for the fuel. I dont trust/like the idea of vacuum raising the fuel pressure for a dry kit.h

Well personally I've always been a fan of wet systems, but then again, I've spent most of my life being a carb guy. I'm just trying to embrace the new technology, plus I like the idea of precisely controlling the fuel that's injected.

I had been planning to use the hypertech programmer for my car.
These other control systems you mention, such as the motec...
Is that something that is used in ADDITION to the factory computer, or something that replaces it?

Also, I have come across the information that if I use Ford SVO injectors and they lock while spraying, they lock in the OPEN position, thereby preventing a terminal lean condition.
BUT...
I don't know if I have that story right, so I'm looking to verify it.

Finally, I personally like the spray bar idea too, since I think it would make for better distribution, but I'd like to run them the LONG way in the plenum, meaning front to back.
But are those bars made in that size or would I be force to run spray bars the short way? (side to side)

One other thing...

Back in the old days, when I last played with nitrous, NOS was the company to go with.
Of course, this was so long ago that Scott Schaffirof was still doing testing for them, and he was still in the high 7's.

Who makes the best nitrous equipment these days? NOS? NX? NW? TNT?

By "best" I mean, most consistent and reliable equipment.

i cant answer you on the SVO injector thing. As far as the Hypertech, dont waste the money.

The DFI stuff i listed can be used "piggy back" or as a replacement for the stock computer, and they all allow precise control of timing/injectors.
Most of these systems even have sepcific N20 enrichment modes.

The spray bars are most commonly used in short applications, but if you are willing to spend enough (isnt money always the root of all this? ),you might be able to get some made, then figure out how to make them work in the stock intake.

Nowadays NOs is still good, but i dont like thier entry level kits, not the best way to go.

I have been extremely impressed with NX,i swapped from Nitrous Works and havent looked back since. TNT is also good from what i hear, havent been able to check them out yet.

Yeah, I think that was you advocating a wet system on another thread.

Is a completely separate fuel system with it's own pump and tank with race fuel still considered to be the way to go?

I ask partially because I have begun to wonder about injecting alcohol instead of gasoline for the extra fuel needed during a shot.

If you have the extra room for a spare system,go for it. As far as Nitrous+Alcohol,i hear that's an extremely difficult tune to get right. Most guys just do race gas/nitrous,mainly becuase that's what 99.9% of the systems are set up for.

I have even heard guys that run alcohol set the seperate cell up with race gas because it is easier to tune.

That's interesting...
I know that alcohol is very sensitive to atmospheric conditions but I would have figured that use in a nitrous system, where there is a specific metered amount of of NOS running through the injector, would provide the sort of consistent flow that would be perfect for alcohol.

N20, Nitrous oxide systems Inc. isn't flowing anywhere.

This just reminded me a few days ago i was talking to a guy in a performance shop and some kid came in and said "I ran outta NOS, can u fill it up?" and the guy at the counter was like "what are u talking about" and "whats NOS" and "we don't carry NOS" LOL, it was hesterical. He kept sayin that until the guy said nitrous and he was like "thats better, give me your bottle" lol
Oh, and it looked like he had a honda pushin the big daddy 50 shot, haha

Look here...

I was saying "NOS" back in 1984 when 383's were the "new thing", running a 200hp plate system on the street was a big deal and we all wanted to be as fast as Scott Schaffirof's Monza.
That, and get through a day at Englishtown without Bill Jenkins giving us the stink-eye for reasons known only to him.

So I don't want to hear any lectures from anyone about me saying "NOS" just because y'all are annoyed with the Fast & Dumbass crowd.

I'm not 18, I don't drive a Honda, I still have an impressive 8-track collection and I'm prone to say things like "NOS" or even the occasional "groovy"

So you WHIPPERSNAPPERS get off my *** about the "NOS"

Buncha goddamn hippys!

either NX or nitrous works has the spray bars that you need..They mount in the rear of the intake..I thought of this last year and when i called they told me it was done before..You will probally have to pry around over the phone to get info..I cant remember what company it was..

Ericthebald, back around 84 ever see a black 71 nova called Bad Habit from nyc with a big block?Or a tube framed 71 dart with a big block chevy without the bumpers in grey primer?
