I saw a truck catch on fire while staging to race. The announcer had just started with 'In the right lane is a beautiful 19xx pickup for sale, big block 562 (or some number), fully NHRA legal into the 9s, etc...when BOOM....flames engulfed the engine and started into the cabin. The driver jumped out and booked it over the wall. It was sad but funny.

except for a window switch....

anyway... i've blown up 2 motors on nitrous.

the first one was a 383 with a 300 shot. the fuel pump took a dump, and it lost fuel pressure racing some mac daddy supra. 1 blown head gasket, 4 pistons with broken ring lands, and several rods that were bent.

2nd motor was a 388. i had a vortech with some nitrous on it. i just put the nitrous on it, and didnt have my window switch wired up yet. i was taking a friend for a bottle pass... armed the bottle and downshifted... the boost blew the intake hose off right after the MAF and it stalled. so we pulled over and got it put back on. just as we were getting back in the car a motorcycle went by (we were on the interstate). it was kinda hard to start after the MAF would blow off, so i gave it full throttle while starting it..... the nitrous was still armed, and sprayin away while i was cranking. let's just say... it cranked up with a huge cloud of black smoke and rev'ed up like i've never seen before. after that, the knock sensor wouldnt calm down... so i pulled it apart. clipped a plug, and that cylinders rod bearing and the main right next to it were down to the copper.

i'm hard on shizzit

Anyone ever take a lighter and a NOS bottle and crack the valve on the bottle while holding the lighter to the escaping Nitrous???

Someone try it and tell me what happens!

perhaps....

i've never seen it happen at any decent rpm. every time i've seen it happen to others, they've tried to spray outta the hole, or at a low rpm. it's never done it to me out of the years that i've been spraying. then again, i dont spray untill i have some decent RPMs going....

i'd imagine it'd put the lighter out. nitrous isn't flammable.
