250 shot on stock bottom-end LS1

I dont know much about N2O or even LS1's, but Im pretty damn sure that an aluminum LS1 block couldn't handle a 250 shot. A buddy cares to differ with me...

Re: 250 shot on stock bottom-end LS1

the block will take that all day long. the problem is that the rings arent made/designed to take that kind of load. depending on timing, i am not as good with ls1s as i am with old style 23 degree carb'd sbc's, i'd say you'll get into detonation without race gas and a timing retard. i know guys here in detroit that spray more then that into ls1's some are c5R blocks and some are not. just depends on how you build them. but to answear your question, yes the block will take it, the parts inside will, but not for long.....

i plan on shooting more then that thru my sbc. but its built for that. the stock ls1 motors seem to like a 125 shot from what i under stand.... hope this helps.

Did Dan open up the ring gap with the 250 shot? Seems like that would be the biggest problem. How many miles on the car?

I'm blasting the sig car with 200 soon to be 250 (april/may 05). I would attribute the engine life to the high milage (increased clearances). Of corse lack of detonation doesn't hurt. Thanks.

Sorry to have side tracked your engine block post. At least it's related.

My opinion is retard the timming, run 110 octane, and pray for the drivetrain.

Re: 250 shot on stock bottom-end LS1

I was wondering how much a stock bottom end could handle also. This winter I'm planning on getting the TNT F2 kit and I'm going to add the racetronics fuel system they have at thunder racing along with the LS1 Timing Tune & nitrous controler.
Do you guys think that with the fuel system and timing controler I could safely run a 200 shot? If i need to I'll run octane booster or unleaded race gas.
After I pay the car off I plan on building a 402 stroker with N2O pistons ported heads and mild N2O cam along with 12 bolt.Since it'll be my daily driver it'll have to be 50 state legal but run 10's or quicker.

Re: 250 shot on stock bottom-end LS1

a 250 shot stock is iffy. i ran my Twin turbo setup to just under 600 rwhp with stock bottom end, but i would suggest more then a 150 shot unless fuel is upgraded, and tune is done by someone who knows n2o, and dont plan on doing it to long. it will all ome down to it will do it, but it might o it one time, it might do it 1k times. The 9.6 @ 141 is a mix of stuff, its weight, traction, tune and with a stock lowwer end, luck. N2O isnt if its going to blow up, its when. its not the safest stuff for a car, but it works well, and you can take alot of safty percosions.
good luck with it
