monterey CA, good place to visit??
monterey CA, good place to visit??
i'm planning to go over there for the weekend.....probably leaving early saturday and going back to LA on sunday....is it a good place to visit?? how much are the hotel rates over there?? thanks
It's definitely not a party town but if you're looking for a place to kick back for a weekend it's a great place (I was born/raised in Carmel, just south of Monterey).
If you do go definitely check out Big Sur and Pfiefer State Beach down in Big Sur (very fun and scenic drive
).
For Saturday night I'd recommend checking out the mellow bars in downtown Carmel ("Jack London's" or the "Forge In The Forest" are cool). If you're looking for some busier nightclub type environment try Alvarado St. in "Old Monterey" has a lot of bars/nightclubs.
Have fun

yeah, i need to have a relax getaway, where i can kick back and relax, possibly near the beach......ahhhhh, that's life
i'm gonna go through freeway 1, and will stop at santa barbara to chill and rest, then continue......what about the hotel rates?? expensive?? hope not
If you're looking to kick back on a mellow beach you'll definitely like Pfiefer and also check out Carmel's beach along "Scenic Drive"
(take "Ocean Avenue" west off of Hwy 1 in Carmel, will take you right through the downtown village and straight to the beach).
As for hotels, they won't be cheap but you can probably land some competitive rates along the MANY smaller hotels/motels/Inns along Munras Ave. in Monterey (has exit right off of Hwy 1 just north of Carmel).
You might also try some of the small hotels/motels off of Fremont on the east edge of Monterey (also has exit right off of Hwy 1, about 2 miles past the Munras exit).
Sorry I don't know the avg. going rate for a room these days (I usually stay with family when I'm home) but those two places are a good starting point and should'nt be too much.
About the only place you'll want to avoid in the entire area is Seaside (northeast of Monterey).
Hope this helps.

if you're bringing a girl and you're going to make like pigs in a blanket on the beach or the campgrounds, then its loads of fun.
that bay is a beatiful b1tch too. could just sit there for hours with a beer in your hand taking in the scenery.

Exactly!, A very good place for ADULTS to kick back with great scenery and a relaxed atmosphere.
However if you've got kids with you, I guess you can always run up to...Santa Cruz, eh, Indy?

thanks a lot man......God, i love this forum, it has provide me with tons of info.....once again, thanks guys.....i probably will be going at the end of oct. since my GF's school work in now in HIGH season....thanks
I was just there at my friend's wedding in Pacific Grove, it was right on the beach. Very beautiful. I made the 3 hour trip with no hesitation, I've always loved it. You and your lady should have a great time. Not to mention, going down the highway, I came across a line of classics and antiques. Then, at a gas station, there were about 10 Vipers, I also saw a CE TA and a few vettes. I think a lot of car club types make that scenic trip as it is. Oh, and check out 17 Mile Drive, it is RIDICULOUS.
