Lake Tahoe vacation, where to stay?

Hi All,

I was thinking about taking some vacation in August. If I do a search for hotels I get a multitude internet hits. I just don't have the time to search and read through all of the hotels, motels and hotel/casinos in the area. Then there is the problem of a resort that looks good on the internet but is a tourist trap when you get there.

I would like some recommendations for some hotels resorts to stay at Lake Tahoe. Prefer S. Lake Tahoe but location would come in second to a quality place.

Thanks.

just don't stay at lakeside casino. the heavenly one is nice; harrahs and harveys are pretty nice, mont bleu is nice and new but geared more towards younger folks. There are also some nice condo style rentals on the california side, I forget the name though

I stayed at Inn by the Lake in South Lake Tahoe a few years ago. Awesome trip... I believe it was this same time of year too. You can smell a mixture of blossoms and pine trees.

This one? Because I was considering it as a possibility. Doesn't look too expensive, near the Lake, seems like a good choice. However, in a popular spot like S. Tahoe inexpensive does translate to cheap! Whats wrong with it?

People don't talk about it too much here in So. Cal. But it is an awesome place!

that is the exact one. It is definitely inexpensive for a reason. cheap is defintitely a good way to describe it. If you stay there just understand you will probably be spending your time at all the other locations and merely just using that one to sleep at. I have never stayed there, only been to its casino (they have a movie theatre inside).

hi just thought i would pop in and drop my 2 cents. if you are going with a family i would suggest rent a house by the lake great place really close to the lake and not that bad on the money but you need to reserve a few months in advance if going by your self maybe stay in reno? for hot august nights? if you never have been its really fun old school cars and also racing on a track but i have never been able to catch that.
