i'm going to the track and i have a Q...

will a dirt bike helmet be accepted? it has no face shield, but the chin is covered and its DOT legal of course. also, I'm in Pomona but haven't been to any tracks around here. any suggestions? or is anyone going this weekend?

The helmet must be a snell 2000 approved. Sometimes they really don't check that hard unless the tech person is looking for it.

you wont need one. they only require helmet for either 12.99 or 13.99 can't rember. I think it is 13.99 for vert, and 12.99 for hard top/t-top.

13.99 for a hardtop and 14.99 for a vert

What track are you going to? If you go to Irwindale it's 8.6 or faster 1/8 mile. They only get on you for a helmet after you go that fast. Palmdale and Fontana check right away, but if you're in the 14's there is no need to worry unless you have a passenger.

This is off the LACR site under "Basic NHRA Safety Rules."
Drivers of all 13.99 or quicker cars, and co-drivers in 14.00 to 14.99 second cars, must wear a helmet meeting Snell 90 or Newer, or SFI 31.1,31.2 specs.
Have fun!

Hey, thanks for all the info guys. Going to Carlsbad today. I've actually been there before. It's an alright track for the summer since it's usually never that hot there. But DAYAM that dirt road is rediculous.

Anyone making it out there today? I'm driving what's in my sig.

So I ran a best of 15.9 at 89mph. Yeah. I suck. Had R/Ts of 1.1+ and 60 ft of 2.4+

BUT

I think I just need some practice. If I get a decent R/T of say .7 and get hooked up pretty early on, I definitely see low 15's in it. With exhauset and intake, mabe even hight 14s.

fun.

Wow, yup those reaction times are not too good. Try gunning it on the 3rd yellow. Are you in a V6 (M5?)? As long as you had good a good time it doesn't matter that you don't blow everyones doors off. Practice makes all the difference.

definitely. I had a blast. but there's definitely room for improvement there and I'm going to try to get those times down as low as I possibly can. where do you race? do you goto Fontana? i heard a bunch of people complaining that their times were off by up to half a second at Carlsbad, so I don't know. I"m going to try a different track.

If so, a Half sec. is HUGE!!! I usually go to Irwindale. It's only an 1/8 mile but I can get in about 10 runs and they go on my day off - Thursday (this week traction there sucked). Fontana (California Speedway) is real close to me but also really crowded. That and I always work on Sat night, when the races are. Palmdale is cool but altitude and track prep hurt my times-lots of cool guys up there.

even if you sit at the green light without moving for 13 seconds and then go whenever you please, your time wont be different from when you had the 1.1 rt, same time with the rt being 13 seconds. I think

You are absolutely correct! RT does not affect ET unless you are bracket racing. Then it's the whole thing to meet your dial in goal and cross the lights when you should - and hopefully the other guy didn't. As I understand it- I don't bracket race.

A good RT will give you an actual race if you go up against an evenly matched car.

I personally don't go to the track to 'beat' other people; I go to improve my times all around. RT, 60', 330', 1/8mile, 1/4mile, MPH. If I improve anywhere in those I am happy. When I improve all of those in one race I am thrilled.

oh. crap. in that case it's not me, it's the car! that sort of blows then. I think I MIGHT be able to run a 15.5 with better traction, but low 15s aren't in my future.

I think I might be shifting too late. i was shifting at close to redline. should i back off and shift at the power peak instead maybe? whatever insight you guys have, i'm listening.
