HELP !! z28...
Don't know about insurance now, I owned my '93 Formula 6 speed in Cali back when I was 24, and the transmission didn't make a difference on insurance.
Depending on how you plan to mod the car, both trannys have thier pros and cons. Autos will run for a long time w/ a good hi-po build up, especially by adding a trans fluid cooler.
A 6 speed is easy to blow through clutches, depending on how you drive. I sold my 98 TA with its 3rd clutch in it.

How much are you lookin' to spend? Autos are great for drag racing, however I love the manuals for the corners. Since I don't drag much, the manual is a fantastic experience. Yes, I do drive in gridlock with the manual and it is fine. You can just keep in in 2nd gear and it is good for 8-30 MPH comfortably so there isn't much shifting. Plus you let off the gas and the engine serves as a brake.
I will only drive manuals as they best suit my purpose.
I've got a 1995 Polo Green Metallic (custom paint with black flake to look very dark and highlight the curves). You should also know it is a 1LE only 106 made and since I'm the original owner, it has just around 10,000 original miles. Not my daily driver. It is garaged and museum quality. You can tell that it isn't going to be a bargain car, but the numbers match. I'll include my sig.

wild... sounds like an awesome car, i really can't wait until i find the car for me, but i mean, i've been looking for 4 months.. so the time should come soon... ohh it better come soon... lol, but yea, i talked to sam (very helpful guy) last night about both his auto and 6 speed cars, and i think i'm still sticking with a 6 speed, simply because my hearts set on it, i dunno, i just feel it won't feel like a z28 or TA w/o a 6 speed. (personal opinion, please don't flame me for it)
ohhh, i have about 7 grand to spend, but i really need the car as cheap as possible, since i will be getting the engine stroked... HOPEFULLY...
the only thing thats really killing me is the registration, as you might be aware in california, the registration has tripled, so i'm kind'a trying to hold off until arnold does smething about it, or if i get the car now, hold off on registering it, until it drops (i don't think i can handle just looking at it in my driveway tho)

Sounds like you need one with a toasted engine since you're going to stroke it anyways. Sometimes you can find theft recoveries where the car was taken for a joyride and the teenagers didn't know how to shift which blew the engine. But you should be able to find something decent for 7k
wild... easier said then done, would you happen to know any sites i could possibly look for a z28, i know ebay motors, recycler, and autotrader. ebay has amazing deals on z's, but i haven't found one thats local, and shipping would be close to 900 dollars. recycler also has some cars, but that site is very unorganized and confusing to search on, i find myself calling the owners to find out simple things like mileage or condition, it's really becoming a pain. autotrader is a huge site with a lot of cars posted, but they are mostly dealers, and i really don't want to buy this car off a dealership. as for this car, i don't really see it ever having great resale value, i am looking for a great deal, salavge or not, i would prefer a salavage where the frame wasn't damaged in anyway, simply because they aren't worth much with a salavage title. i do have 7 grand to spend, but i don't want to spend that all on a car, some of that money has to go into the 3,500 to get the engine stroked and rebuilt. and as for year, as u might have read in my earliert posts, i can only get a 93-95 LT1, because that won't increase my insurence.

I've got a buddy who works auctions and picks up cars. He gets good deals but charges a small commission. If your serious, and it sounds like you are... I'll call him and ask him to scout.
1993-1995 Z28 Manual
Mileage shouldn't matter since your building the engine again anyways right? The Borg-Warner T56 Manual is a tough tranmission and shouldn't wear much with proper Dextron III fluid changes.
Confirm you want me to make the call and I'll get this moving for you. Auctions work by bidding and paying money at the time of transaction. So, if he gets a car for you, you'll have to have the money very handy. If you pull out after he paid for the car he becomes one unhappy camper since he is out the dough. He's a great guy and really comes through.

wild... can u ask him to scout how much they are going for, since i'm trying to budget my money wisely, can he maybe give you an estimate on how much theyroughly go for... since i don't want to any bad relations, and commit before i really know what i'm getting into, i've always tried to aviod auctions, but can u please ask him how much they run for on auctions. because as i said, if it's a really grea deal, i won't pass it up.

I just made the call... today, he just picked up a 1995 Red w/ Black top Z28, chrome rims, perfect body, but it's and automatic. The automatic is slipping and works fine but not perfect. (He knows I'm a perfectionist and doesn't try to pull stuff past me... like I said he's a good guy if you take care of him)
$4300
Look around to see what Auto to Manual conversions are available (Search the LT1 section).
Just an option... If the trans was perfect then he would up the price $1000 - $1200. Which should give you a ballpark of what to expect at auctions.
Let me know how you want me to proceed.
