Cool Fatdog

I don't normally use arco, but if your car runs good, then don't change.I've been happy with mobile lately, and Shell as well, where I didn't like them before(92 octane, now 91),I used chevron, but now with the lower octane, the Mobil and Shell seem to run better here now.I had some problems with 76 last month because they are using 10% ethenal in the gas,and you can really feel the difference, with rough idle, and performance.Hope this helps.

ARCO was/is horrible. They are getting better but were absolutley horrible. I worked at the place that regulates gas stations and ARCO was the worst. They are always in legal trouble over how they conduct business. They never changed thier filters at the pumps. They would claim that they last for years even though they last a couple of months. They are the cheapest for a reason, and it's not just because they are so big. They don't spend money or upgrade anything. I NEVER buy from Arco unless I am stranded. But to each his own.

I drive A LOT and I've never noticed a difference from one brand to another. I use whatever is closest when I'm low. Even if the gas is 5 cents cheaper around the corner...

5 cents x 13 gallons (what I normally put in)= 65 cents difference...not really worth the hassle to me. Just my opinion. For what it's worth, I have been told ARCO is no good.

I have only one time put Arco gas in my Z and I put in 92 and got the best gas mileage. I normally fill up at about 220 when the light goes on, but after the arco fill up, I went to about 250. I also use chevron and put in 89 all the time.

You can't get 92 in Cali. You used to be able to, but not anymore. The 1 octane point really doesn't do much though.

About the Arco gas...
My dad bought a gas hedge trimmer and right there in the instructions it says not to use Arco gas. It doesn't say why, but if its not good enough for a freaking hedge trimmer, then I don't want it in my car. I use Chevron, the savings aren't worth it, imho.

I only used Shell in my bad boy. But when the Shell by my house closed down, I had to find something else. I started using Chevron, and I am happy. I would NEVER put Arco in my SS. I've never used cheap gas, and I never will. Some people say it's all the same, but I'm not willing to take that chance.

Well the thing not to confuse here is: 1) Quality of Gas, 2)Quality of Gas STATION.

89 Octance gas is 89 Octane gas at any service station, BUT each chain add's their own 'additives' for cleaner burning, more economical..blah, blah stuff. But bottom line, they're the same.

Its the service stations that make that gas degrade from the truck to the tank to the pump and ultimately...to your F-body. Like mentioned, the filters arent maintained, lines are worn out or tattered, etc....which cause moisture and junk to get into your car.

I personally would never use anything other than Mobile, Shell or Chevron (76 every now and then) because of their maintenence n stuff.

Z28Girl: How does your car run on 89octane?!?! I used it ONCE, and my car was kicking, bucking all over the place. Hmm...must be 'the womans touch' ...*shrugs*

Before I put my built 383 in, my car didn't like arco much either. It perfered chevron. I noticed you live in West Covina? There is a 76 gas station on citrus just south of the 10fwy that sells 100 octane race gas from the pump. That's what I put in now. Hope this helps.

I hope my car runs ok on cali gas, I have the pcmforless tune with the high octane requirement, I emailed Brian (the owner) and he said because of the higher elevation, my car will drive ok, just retard timing, still it makes me worry. I know when I go to the track, I'm gonna mix in some of that 100 octane, how much does that stuff cost per gallon? Also anyone use that Costco gas, its real cheap, and I do have my dads card to use, but not sure if its the same level of Arco?

At this particular pump station in So.Cal it's about $5.00 a gallon. But a little extra insurance is worth it to me.

Arco's fine just stay away from Ultramar. There one of the worse. I used to drive a old Volvo and a couple times used Ultramar gas and the car was hard to start and ran like crap. I use 76 since I have there gas card and Chevron in my Z.
