Question Wiring a Switch

I just installed a Air/Fuel Ratio gauge. Basically because it has cool light, plus i here they don't work worth a crap. anyways, i decided since i'm wiring this thing up, i'm gonna put in a switch to switch from left bank to right bank. The switch is a DPDT(double pole/double throw) switch. So it has a on/off/on set up on it. This is how i wired it.

On Off On
1 2 3
4 5 6

i took the sensing wire from the a/f gauge and put a Y connector on and ran that to 1 and 3. then i ran the wire from the left bank to 4. then i ran the wire from the right bank to 6. Now when start the car to check the gauge it does nothing but sit all the way at the last rich spot, like when you just touch the power and ground off the gauge to the battery to test it.

So apperently i have something backward or what. I need some help here fellow f-body people.

I always thought that with a DPDT switch the center terminals were the common and were then connected to the outer terminals depending on which position the switch was in.

So in other words I would connect the wire from the A/F gauge to terminal 2 and then connect the left bank to 1 and the right bank to 3.

If you have a multimeter that can check continuity test between pins 1,2,&3 in the different locations of the switch to verify.
