Winter project update:

To those who were wondering. The car was put together just days before the CZ28Nats. I wasn't expecting awesome times. I just wanted to see if it held together & have some fun. I went a best of 11.65, MPH fluxuated between 115 and 120 both days. I couldn't figure out that one. 60's were in the 1.65 range. These times were on motor only. No nitrous this time.

I'm certainly not used to these kinda "slow" times. But I try to justify it by explaining to myself that the car is built for a big shot, hence heavy pistons, bigger ring gaps, different convertor, yada, yada, yada.

The car has been running like crap lately. Throwing about every code that you can think of. MAAF, CAT, Coil, you name it. I was surprised I never got a code from the tranny switch. Per Tech 2, the computer is showing the tranny is in 2nd gear, when I'm sitting still. The wires are tucked up in there, so I dont know if any of this not being deleated yet, is affecting performance or not.

I know the car is in serious need of a tune, along with bigger injectors. But I have waited to do those until I get the nitrous system figured out, & get the tune all at once, instead of paying one for motor & then another for the nitrous.

Yesterday,I changed the plugs from TR6 to TR5 (gapped at .40) I switched the MAF, but it still showed the low circuit on coil 5. I switched the wire & it went away. I switched all the wires back to stock, and she ran like a dream. No SES lights were showing all the way home, until this dan 4th gen bird was holding up traffic, going 35 in a 55, blasted by 5 cars like they were standing still (should have seen the look on the guys face ). Then the light came on. ATAP showed the P0140. Rear cat, which should have been deleted, but never was. Have to get with APE on that one.

Raised up the Hal shocks 1", put the 27" front runners on there, and the sway bar, Now the height is perfect, and I dont scrape the hell out the front air dam everytime I do med to hard braking.

So, while there is much to do in the quest for a 9 sec street car, we are making progress.. Hot Rod Harry gives the car 2 thumbs up.

Damn, I wish my car was as fast as your is slow . Just give it some time and some money and it will all work out in the end.

P.S. Thanks for my honorable mention as the ratchet strap bitch and D.D. on the way home that weekend.I think you take me for granted some times. J/K

Honorable mention to those that helped with the project. Steve for helping me pull the motor at his house. Andy for letting me store it at his house, & helped me put the new motor back in. James for all the emotional support, & his handy strap work

Of course by friend Gary for helping out with the tranny install, not once, but twice..

If I could just hit the lottery, I could afford the juice & some 9 sec slips...

Thanks to everyone else that helped out.

Cool, neither Steve or Harold have beat my 11.02@122.7mph pass from my old ARE 422ci hydraulic ironblock setup that was over 3500 raceweight. That was on 93 pump gas and with a 4L60E. And I drove the car 90 miles to US41.

SMACK!!!!!!!

How do you know what I did this last weekend? I'd say that after only 15 passes on the new transmission I'm knocking on your door step. Pump gas, 3450 and my little 382 street motor is putting up some good fights. I'm only battling a bad 60' at the moment which I hope to resolve soon. Presumably the cars are nearly identical to what yours once was, only difference being the weight of the block.

I guess I'll have to take that as a compliment on my progress so far.

You have a solid roller those are worth 3 tenths so you would have been a heads up race with my old setup. And I was 100 lbs heavier than you when I went 11.06, I was 3550 for that run.

My friend Sean (01z) went 11.13@121mph at 3050 raceweight with stock heads, g5x2, and all the other goodies at Super Chevy RT66 in 2000 DA air. Thru mufflers.

Rich (SilverZ) was there he went 11.3 thru full catback with his ARE stock bottom car.

Yes I have a solid roller, non-race 382, lower compression pump gas motor. Not the same as Coffey's or Mikey's. I'm giving up quite a bit compared to your old setup. Care to e-mail me your numbers and I'll share off the record.

Congrats to Sean. Now tell him to strap 300 to that thing and lets dance. Nice race weight too, only 400 pounds more than what I can even find, even if I wasn't in the car!!

11.3 Is pretty good through a catback and stock bottom. There are a few cars down in that territory. My fat *** was not one of them. Hell, Stenod bested that this weekend with his entire stock block, heads, valvetrain and his bolt on twin turbo's through a six speed.

What are we comparing here?

3050lbs? how the hell did he manage that? remove the fenders, let air out of the tires, sit on a milk crate? drop a quart low in the oil pan? lol

Yeah Sean's car is super light, I'm always amazed. He went 10.9's in better air with no mufflers.

He even has a 6 pt cage, lite weight carpeting.

I'd be curious to see what all he did. Mine sits at 3200 with no back seats but otherwise full interior. no cage though!

I am trying to figure out where he gets the rest of that outta there.... I think I could pull another 50-75 out, but it would take some serious planning and money expenditure to get beyond that

front support 20 lbs
rear support 20 lbs
passenger seat 30-40 lbs
pinon hood 15 lbs vs 50 for stock

It adds up.

There is a thread about weight reduction in the drag racing section of www.camaroz28.com.
